Oct 4, 2024 Bring Me The Horizon - POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR A lot of this really reminded me of (early) Linkin Park but a bit "harder" if you know what I mean. It's a nice short album with nice lyrics. The one issue I have with it is not an actual criticism, but personal taste. I'm not a huge fan of the heavy screaming, which is why I'm not too big on metal or heavy rock in general. But that's only parts of this album, and on a few songs where it bothered me a little for example Dear Diary. On the other hand the album has a lot which I loved: the hook on Obey was fantastic and I really enjoyed the songs 1x1 and Kingslayer. Dope collabs! Only song I really didn't enjoy at all was Itch for the Cure. I didn't include one song when I mentioned my favorites because I want to highlight it again; Butterflies (I know the title is way longer). Like I said what a beautiful piece of music. Listened to it a few times after hearing the album. To summarize; its not completely for me, but the stuff I did liked, I liked a LOT. 7.8/10 @AOTWClub @jankland
Oct 4, 2024 It's probably gonna be rare for me to get this autistic for my future picks but I definitely have a few more albums in mind that I can do this about again lmao
Oct 4, 2024 I thought people here would like the album but figured the sentiment about the screaming would be echoed a bit, this is one of my gateway albums into heavier sounds and since then I've been listening to a lot of metal music and its weirdly calming when you get used to it lol.
Oct 5, 2024 Marilyn Manson - Eat Me, Drink Me I've been listening to (mostly) rap for so long I sometimes forget what actual music sounds like. And no, this is not a diss to rap, I meant the difference between the same f---ing drums for 20 songs on some albums and killer guitar riffs and other instruments creating songs like this. For the most part I can appreciate this, even if I don't like all songs on here. The first 2 songs are very well done but they don't click with me. However Red Carpet Grave I love it. It really is catchy and his vocal performance is great. Also really like h---'s Not Hot, dude has such a raw voice it's incredible. Not a huge fan of a Car Crash Away, but then another highlight comes on with Heart Shaped Glasses. Mutilation is the.... also one I like. The rest of the second half is more slow paced, which is not a bad thing but I definitely prefer the songs I mentioned mosty because it's a bit faster. The conclusion is that this is great music. Mansons vocals are amazing and like half the songs I'll definitely revisit! Interesting choice again. 7/10 @Justin Trudeau @AOTWClub
Oct 5, 2024 I'll get my bring me the horizon review in tonight had the longest f---in day of life with delays and layovers yesterday at the airports
Oct 5, 2024 Bring Me The Horizon - Post Survival Horror Like I mentioned before, my only previous experience with BMTH was their 2023 collaboration with Lil Uzi so I really had no idea what this record would be like. Based off of the band's name I was afraid it'd be like one of those cringe late 2000's bands like Falling In Reverse. but thankfully this album is much better than that (Ronnie Radke is such a strange specimen) First off, I'll speak about what I enjoyed: The instruments. It might be a bit cliche from me at this point, but I really dug the drumming and especially the guitars. The production was very good too, and the mixing was pretty well done as well. Now, I don't really have any big "negatives" for this album, but I do have to admit that I'm not the biggest fan of Oli Sykes' vocals. They're not bad by any means (and I definitely see the comparisons to Chester Bennington) but I also can't say that I was a big fan. It's probably just up to preference though. For such a short record (it's even classified as an EP on RYM) I was surprised to see some pretty high profile guests on it like Yungblud, Amy Lee, and Babymetal who probably have my favorite vocal performance on the record (they were also on Uzi's Pink Tape which is a crazy coincidence). Overall I liked the album fine, but I do wonder if it was the best introduction for the band's music. For every album recommended in this club, I like to check their RYM page after listening and "Sempiternal" is their highest rated release so maybe I'll check it out. But ultimately I think that PH:SH is a decent album that isn't my cup of tea, but still has some pretty decent songs at the same time FAVORITES: Kingslayer, Ludens Rating 6.5/10 @AOTWClub
Oct 5, 2024 I chose this one because for a short record it shows off some of their different styles, electronic stuff like Kingslayer, more straight forward screamo like Dear Diary, slower songs like the last track etc. Sempiternal is widely considered their best but I figured the constant screaming on that album would have overtaken the conversation even though I love the writing and production on that album and it's super influential in the genre as a whole. I also think the band hit me at the right time cause if I heard some of their lyrics from other bands like a Falling In Reverse (f--- Ronnie Radke, awful human.) I would find them much more cringe. Glad you liked the bits that you did and definitely recommend diving further into the albums you think you might like more!
Oct 6, 2024 @AOTWClub Not too many reviews in for bring me the horizon yet (including myself lol) I'll tally them up on Wednesday as usual @Wreckless sometime today feel free to post your album for this week
Oct 6, 2024 This week really flew by. I’ll have my pick ready by this afternoon, and I hope to find some time to listen to and review Jank album as well.
Oct 6, 2024 Bring Me The Horizon- Post Human: Survival Horror I had heard of this band before but never checked them out so I like the pick @jankland My review isn't gonna be super long, I really enjoyed this album though. This kinda of music isn't my favorite, it's kind of like Marilyn Manson to me(I know they don't sound the same) I just mean I've got to be in a certain mood to listen and fully appreciate it. The band kills it on these tracks, it's definitely something when I played competitive sports when I was younger that would have been in my headphones and discman (I'm old lmfao) before hockey games. My favorite tracks are Dear Diary and Ludens. As I said this isn't typically my cup of tea but I do think it's a fairly solid album so I'd give it a 6.5/10
Oct 6, 2024 Jank made my job a bit easier by going with a Metalcore band. While my selections were manlier and heavier, we won't have to revisit that direction again. Going to have my review for Post Survival Horror tonight
Oct 6, 2024 BMTH review from me will be in tonight, had a busy week including a crazy a--- headache at the end of the week that threw me completely off kilter
Oct 6, 2024 I decided to switch it to another album. One that I truly love rather than just like. But i'm still sticking with the divorced dad theme. Enjoy
Oct 6, 2024 @AOTWClub @Wreckless has chosen Disturbed- Indestructible Ripperroo: 6/10 Justin Trudeau: 6.5/10 Stepdad enjoyer: 6/10 Jankland: 7/10 Yeez: 6/10 Diggledogg: 7.5/10 39/60= 6.5 I will tally up Bring Me The Horizon on Wednesday
Oct 6, 2024 I think having Metal freaks, Rap freaks and Pop freaks in the rotation of users is going to keep this thread pretty fun for a while if it stays somewhat active!
