I’m not sure the forum is really into rock genres. It seems like the number of reviews has dropped since we started steering towards those metal genres lol.

I am more rap, pop, and r&b leaning but I am open to rock and more often than not I like the rock that is recommended here

Bring Me The Horizon - Post Human: Survival Horror

Favorite tracks : Parasite Eve, Tear Drops, Obey, Kingslayer, 1X1
Least favorite tracks: One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March Towards Your Death (Longest Title in History)

I've heard a few songs from Bring Me The Horizon before, and I felt pretty neutral about them. Lots of heavy emo screaming, but nothing that really grabbed me.

This album has surpassed my expectations. I wasn’t anticipating liking it as much as I did. I also enjoyed the EDM elements. Especially when it's perfectly implemented like in Parasite Eve. The build up to that song is fantastic.

I also got some serious Blade vibes at the beginning of "Obey." The first few seconds sound just like the music in the club scene from the Blade movie.

I also found myself enjoying the Babymetal track and can definitely see myself appreciating this album more over time, although I need to be in the right mood for it, much like with most Metalcore.

While there are definitely songs I preferred on albums I attributed good scores to I find this project to be very consistent overall. Each track on the album is enjoyable to varying degrees with the only stinker being the last track.

    8/10

Bring Me The Horizon - Post Human: Survival Horror

    review

This EP is BMTH at their most mature, their most refined, and their most versatile.

Out of the gate, they put any allegations that they had gone soft to rest with Dear Diary, and they make it clear that this EP is focused around Covid, lockdowns, and the general feeling that, at the time of this project's release, the world was in a state of unrest. This song goes so f---ing insanely hard. It’s one of the songs that got me back listening to heavier music during lockdown after not doing so for a couple years atleast.

Parasite Eve follows a similar trend, though this song wasn't written about Covid, it felt conveniently interlinked with it. IMO, this is the worst track on the album, it feels a bit dated, stylistically and lyrically. I liked some of the production and how the song’s soundstage is set up but the track did not progress the way I hoped it would.

Teardrops begins to bring in the Linkin Park-inspired sound that will appear throughout the rest of the EP, and it does it in a great way. I love the production on this. The drums are sounding punchy as h--- with those layered guitars at the back. I like the writing a lot, Sykes sounds great. This song gave me hella Meteora vibes. This is how LP influenced music should be sounding in this day and age. One of my favorites on the album fasho.

Obey is the only good piece of music with Yungblud's name on it. Loving the energy of this track.

Itch for the Cure is a great electronic interlude, and makes me wish BMTH would do an entire project that sounds something like it. Enjoyed this track a bunch.

Kingslayer is the high point of this album. BMTH once again beat the popstar allegations and deliver some of their heaviest music in years, balanced out with BABYMETAL's fun, melodic, yet intense performance. This song is masterfully written as well, from the lyrics to how the verses are structured. Loved the production, the scream melting into that synth at the end was sick.

1x1 explores the LP-inspired sound once again, this time feeling a little too derivative of LP, but not by any means bad. Nova Twins also deliver a wonderful feature.

Ludens feels a bit boring compared to the rest of the tracklist. Its a good song, but I don't feel that it fits into its place on the EP too well.

Butterflies is a great outro, bringing the EP to a screeching halt with a slow, melodic ballad, Amy Lee does an amazing job, and Oli still manages to sprinkle in a hint of metalcore where it matters. Beautiful track.

    9/10

POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR - Bring Me The Horizon REVIEW

    Score: 6.5

    Review:

I honestly wish I liked this more. Sure, I saved 6 out of the 9 songs on the project, but something just wasn't clicking for me like I feel like it should have for me to rate it higher. Maybe I just didn't get enough songs in this one to really know how to feel? I'm sure this one would grow on me, but on initial listen, it's more middle of the road to me. When the songs were great, they were GREAT though! I feel like I should dive into the discog more. I don't have much to say about the album tbh, but great pick @jankland !

Had some good tunes but it did not grab me like some of their other stuff. Felt kinda phoned in to me. This could change, I did not give the project as much attention as I perhaps should have.

first couple listens I thought it was like a 5/10 but it grew on me a ton, I think learning some of the lore s--- weirdly helped the original problems I had with the mixing on that record. Its just annoying when Survival Horror is mixed and mastered immaculately

Exactly, was much harder to get into than many other BMTH records. I just gave up because of how rough it sounded; had a ton of records I was listening to at the time so I forgot about that one rather quickly.

Not that I’m saying I need something mega polished from the band, it’s just that I felt like they went two steps back with that release in terms of how it sounded.

I still really like the album now but you can really tell they had to scrub Jordan Fish off of songs when he left the band. Now he's producing Poppy's new album and I think he was seen working with Spiritbox so I'm still getting fed lmao
