Nov 17, 2024 I would hate to be an artist in the 70’s-90’s, they were always accused of causing s--- like this
Nov 17, 2024 He has some really f----- up stuff but the album i picked i listen to as a horror movie, it's not something I wanna listen to often but he's got a great flow and the production is really fun as well @Michael Myers I want a review for this one lol
Nov 17, 2024 Kiss - Destroyer Short review: Going from Travis Scott to Kiss is definitely an unexpected shift. Like many people I knew who Kiss was and heard some of their hits but never listened to one of their albums in full before. Overall, the album was solid. Detroit Rock City is by far the best song on this album imo. I also really like God of Thunder. Never heard that one before. 7/10 @AOTWClub
Nov 17, 2024 The review I’ve been waiting for Travis to KISS haha yeah that’s me, a bit ago Spotify did this thing and it told me I was one of the few people that would listen to both Future and KISS, just thought it was cool
Nov 17, 2024 Is this gonna be the first album where everyone who reviews gives the same score?? I think it’s been 7’s across the board
Nov 17, 2024 That's interesting, I’ve never heard any of his songs but the name definitely rings a bell. I’m really looking forward to this. I clicked on a couple of his tracks on YouTube and I’m digging what I’m hearing.
Nov 17, 2024 Yeah I noticed this as well, it would be crazy for this to be the most unanimous album. Surely someone here doesn’t like it
Nov 17, 2024 If you like Mannibalector, I'd recommend dinner and a movie and the coathanger strangler Theyre actually a trilogy Mannibalector is the third one
Nov 18, 2024 @Justin Trudeau @AOTWClub First time reviewing late but I suppose having to go to a wedding in another state is a good excuse lol Now there might be some bias in this statement but I think Destroyer is a classic in the genre, now classic ≠ perfect and there are some songs in here that while I enjoy them they aren't up to par with some of the singles for me. The album sounds great overall, everyone did their thing and it was the height of the original lineups prowess. I don't have much to say about the lyrics of the album as they're self explanatory and don't need any breaking down, they're perfectly serviceable and from a structuring standpoint they've always known how to make catchy songs but this weighing in at 30mins with some solid sequencing and good transitions makes it an even easier listen. Now I do have some songs I like more than others but I won't be doing a least favorite songs section, I think it's unfair cause I to some other songs on the album 200x more lol Favorite Songs (very basic picks): Detroit Rock City, King Of The Night Time World, God Of Thunder, Shout It Out Loud, Beth (best live part of the concert tbh). RATING 8/10
Nov 18, 2024 KISS - Destroyer review First off, I should state that I long ago dismissed this band as the gimick-laden, musically lightweight sham that they are. Reading Simmons' autobiography Kiss and Makeup helped in this regard, as I'd never read a more self aggrandizing, arrogant piece of s--- book in my life. His infamous interview with Terry Gross for NPR helped me to realize his utter assholishness as well. Now, I realize that one doesn't have to like the personality of one's favourite musicians, as by and large most of them are assholes, but when one encounters an a------ as monumental as Gene Simmons, it becomes impossible to enjoy his music on its own merits...almost. Thus, having said all that, I reckon this is the most solid and enjoyable album by this band of joyless fuckwits (Ace Frehley excepted). Production-wise, this was their slickest record to date, courtesy of Bob Ezrin. For the first time on a Kiss album, all the songs sound different, and almost all of them are good. It starts off strong with the powerful "Detroit Rock City", a tribute of sorts to everyone's favourite rock and roll town, and the location of the shows preserved on their breakthrough album Alive!. To this very day the denizens of Detroit take pride in their "rock city" designation, and seldom will you find a more enthusiastic audience. Moving right along..."King of the Night Time World" is a propulsive rocker which was always one of my favourite tracks here. "God of Thunder" is pretty silly, but contributes greatly to the cartoonish, super-hero image that Simmons sought to project. The middle section with all the sound effects and children yelling is pretty stupid, but the song itself is decent. "Great Expectations", complete with overblown production and choir accompaniment, is one of the weaker tracks on the album, its ridiculously hilarious lyrics notwithstanding. ("You're sitting in your seat, and you stop and clutch your breasts. Our music drives you wild, along with the rest"). Side two is decent as well, although most of the material is somewhat similar sounding, both thematically and sonically, except the wretched "Beth". It's mostly a series of anthemic rockers of which some are good ("Sweet Pain"), and some are, for lack of a better word, a--- ("Flaming Youth"). "Shout it Out Loud" is one of their most enduring anthems, and rightfully so, as it's actually pretty good. So, all in all, a mixed bag here, but a pretty good one for a band this bone-headed and talentless (again, Ace Frehley excepted). 6/10 @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau
Nov 18, 2024 Growing up and realizing how egotistical and arrogant they were broke my heart haha, s--- really s----d to realize considering these guys were my heroes at such a young age. I will always respect the music they put out however
