Apr 23, 2015 I understand what you're trying to do, but the thing is that although Curren$y doesn't rap solely about weed, everything he speaks about is from the POV of a stoner, and he's always speaking about weed and drug culture. Even when he's talking about, say, playing nba 2k, he's still talking about being high while playing it. I would understand how someone who doesn't smoke would be annoyed. In the same vein, the fact that I don't have a dirty vagina and 20 male partners makes Amy not for me.
Apr 23, 2015 Seriously, you can't tell me you've seen most of her work. She's one of the best young comics out regardless of gender. She's cosigned by and was mentored by Dave Attell of all people. She cut her teeth in the scene. It's like saying all Rodney Dangerfield talked about was his wife not respecting him. It's a dumb generalization. Yes, she plays into women comedian tropes but black comics play into black tropes and fat comics and alcoholic comics... Comedia Del Arte is the basis for all comedy and is based on a handful of characters. She's as mean and clever as anybody who's been doing it as long as her. At her age Louis CK was still unknown. Don't give me that "I can't relate crap". If you have to relate to something to respect it then you shouldn't pretend your judgement is accurate. It's okay to say you don't like something but to pretend that's because of lofty standards is just ignorant.
Apr 23, 2015 I'm not trying to say I've seen a ton if her works. I've seen 2 comedy specials and neither appealed to me. And yeah I wasn't trying to say I need to relate, I was trying to say that in the same way a non stoner might find currensys content tiresome, someone like me finds her content tiresome If I said she was actually bad, then my bad I don't think comedy is a factual thing and I misphrased what i wanted to say, I just don't like her and everything I've seen has played TOO much into her tropes.
Apr 23, 2015 Women have been denigrated in comedy as far back as the 1500s. You can say you don't like something without mischaracterizing it. You totally came off like a "DAE women aren't funny" type of person. If not, my bad. Yes, comedy is subjective as much as anything. No, that doesn't make it incomprehensible or impossible to qualify talent.
Apr 23, 2015 Yeah wasn't what I was trying to do. Sarah Silverman one of my favorites (oh God now I sound like a "I'm not racist I have a black friend" type guy) But yeh, like I said, misphrasing, I just don't like her material I've seen.
