Arrogant? First, you started coming at me everywhere for no reason. Second, stop derailing every thread, really. It's getting annoying for everybody.

I really like most of the album.

However, "God Is" might be my least favorite Kanye song of all time. The 2nd half somewhat saves the song, but I hate Kanye's singing at the beginning of this.

Reminds me of a church version of this monstrosity:

by no means top tier kanye, but there's a number of solid tracks... way better than the empty, horrendous ye and TBH more focused/complete then the flawed TLOP. probably closer to that in quality then some want to admit.

i dont think kanye is on drugs necessarily either. i think this album is his 'moment of clarity', attempting to show his gratitude in a v post-rehab kanye AA making amends way. Also: i dont think this is an extension of the trump stuff either, though its peripheral. long history of black christianity gosep, hes appealing to that pocket of ppls not Overtly reaching for maga country. ...that said, its obviously dicey: you have members of the Duggar family praising this lol. anyway my point is maybe this album wasnt meant for keyboard white boys. just a thought.

i dunno if its better. just think its tighter and more purposeful than tlop, which by design was incomplete and scattered. that was the first kanye album i felt truly underwhelmed by, so i think having it in concert w this/ye is more than appropriate.

guess I just disagree with the implication that "purposeful" is inherently better. And to go further, not sure I agree that TLOP didn't have a purpose.

I mean, Jesus Is King is "complete" in the sense that....he talks about the same stuff on every song, and there aren't any glaring unfinished bits. I don't think that makes it any less undercooked. I still got the sense that these songs ended too soon, without anything ever really happening (and contrary to my original post, I have listened to this album a few more times). Do any of these songs really GO anywhere? Certainly not in the way that, like, ULB or Real Friends or No More Parties In LA or Father Stretch My Hands or FML or Famous did. Not even in the way that Ghost Town did!

Weren't you in the thread I made looking for new artists? How am I not open to new music?

I got introduced to a bunch of new artists which I enjoyed in that thread and it was pretty clear by my comments.

To me Yeezus is not enjoyable to listen to. I just can't vibe to it. And don't pretend like this isn't a common opinion on the album. I'd say there are equally as many people who think Yeezus is trash as there are people who like it and call it a "Masterpiece"

Not everyone will enjoy the same music. And that doesn't make them close minded.

I don't like using the word "Masterpiece" because a lot of people overuse it but if I had to call any of Kanye's albums a mastetpiece, MBDTF is much closer in my book. Personally, Yeezus and "Masterpiece don't belong in the same sentence lol.

right, im not saying purposeful is better necessarily either. i just think tlop is a frayed album, full of several jams/classic individual tracks... but kind of a bellyflop. neither projects are classics and im not arguing JIK is good or better. think of it this way: you have the initial trilogy, the innovative trilogy (808, mbdtf, yeezus) then this period. i just see them more alike than not. i do think you may be underselling the merits of, say, Follow God to Use This Gospel tho. Speaking of Real Friends, you don't think Kanye's description of the fight with his dad is at least in the same ballpark of family confession that spines RF?

i also want to echo @ChadCunt for a moment lol. this does feel like the opposite of eminem's instincts on relapse (which has garnered a cult following and probably deserves 1,100 positive words in @WPG's patreon blog).... im watching bojack s6 rn, edit: which is predominantly set in rehab, and all i can muster is how confusing and misguided and rattled ur instincts must be after the a physical and mental rigmarole like that. its gotta be a mindfuck which is partly why recovering addicts find so much solace in ritualizing. we've talked offline about how this is knaye's Slow Train Coming , but i think it's important to contextualize and engage e JIK a bit from that vantage point. not a defense of the album mind you

As much as I think half of the album sux (and it will not grow on me because I'm done giving music I dont like after a few listens even more chances)... follow god, on god and to a lesser extent Everything We Need and Closed on Sunday are growing on me even more
