Sep 10, 2015 no it doesn't lol there's nothing more objective about a handful of peoples opinions vs another singular opinion, because they're all still opinions
Sep 10, 2015 You have to assume that people who critique music as a career have more accurate opinions than the regular fan, especially if they all agree.
Sep 10, 2015 'accurate opinions' at most, all it means if they all agree is that they all agree. it doesn't hold anymore value as an opinion than anyone elses because it's still just a bunch of opinions on something as insanely subjective as music (just like any form of entertainment)
Sep 10, 2015 But given that they critique music professionally, the same way movie critics do, you have to think that some people know a masterpiece better than others when they see it. An art historian can tell me a piece of art is a masterpiece and I'd believe them, even if I don't like the piece of art, because I'd know that when it came to art, they'd have better judgement than me.
Sep 10, 2015 this is still relying on all of that being an objectively judgeable thing, which it is not. they can have knowledge and respect in certain things and give out lots of opinions professionally, it still doesn't change that what they're saying is and will always be an opinion based on criteria that you may or may not agree with depending on how the same things they're judging impact you/have impacted you.
Sep 10, 2015 god no i'd end up getting arrested for punching some dumbass politcal rival in the face for being a dumbass. i have very low tolerance for that kind of s--- and it wouldn't get me far
Sep 10, 2015 I'm not sure. He did tweet about TPAB being a masterpiece, also given that he said he wants this album to be his magnum opus, I think he'd be extra cautious that no one steals the light from the album. Also, TPAB isn't that digestible, which means it really isn't that popular. Judging from the amount of people who have said they "prefer the old Kendrick" on the internet and the general love for Young Thug on this forum over K dot I'd say TPAB is more critically rather than commercially appreciated.
Sep 10, 2015 I get what you're saying tho. Still it's heavily championed by lots people as the greatest thing ever. I've seen it happen. TPAB just hit that sweet spot for being absolutely safe and likeable and yet 'conscious and black' enough to be considered 'revolutionary'. Which i disagree with to a large extent btw. I see a lot of similarities between TPAB and Yeezus btw. But i prefer Yeezus ofcourse.
Sep 10, 2015 foh. if a new kanye(or any kind) album dropped and there was an opinion of a person who generally listened to the top 40 chart now and then vs that of a professional critic who's critiqued hundreds of albums, I certainly wouldn't regard them of the same value.
Sep 10, 2015 it doesn't matter whether or not you'd regard them as the same, they are. what you think of one persons taste in music vs another has no bearing on any of this because ultimately, it would all still be subjective opinions they're giving you based on their personal experience with the album, and nothing more. now whether or not you value one of their opinions higher, well that's another thing entirely. but their actual value is the same.
Sep 16, 2015 its sorta a full song with no verses, kinda like an instrumental but with the chorus.. sounds pretty good
Sep 16, 2015 The funny thing is i was unassumingly posting house tracks earlier today: https://forum.sectioneighty.com/what-other-song-are-you-listening-to.t28124/page-11 I coudn't be more excited and happy about the direction he took with this!
