    I agree with you 100% about music sometimes being about raw energy and emotion for me. That's why I love Playboi Carti's most recent album. If I'm looking to dissect and unpack lyrics I'd be listening to GZA or something.

    But at the same time, I don't think it 100% excuses the sloppy writing coming from someone who's written songs like New Slaves and Gorgeous and All Falls Down. Because Kanye's shown in the past he can write a song with thoughtful lyrics that also comes that feeling of raw emotion and energy. And to me that's what's gonna keep him from reaching past heights again.

    This is a good album, but it could have been as great as Daytona had he taken the time to make the lyrics as tight as Pusha's.

    I get this. And it's one of my favourite tracks. But I kinda just look at it like an unfiltered expression of mania/craziness.

    I particularly love the duality of the chorus and spoken word at one point in the song... He's just spazzing the f--- out while talking about how he scares himself.

    I could do without some lines on the track though. But I dunno... I find it difficult to critique that song.

    That's been him for a decade though lol. The difference is that he's admitted the pitfalls, the downside, he's aware of his clinical diagnosis... and he doesn't have much to say about it. Not anything eye opening. It's barely changed anything. He's still in the "name one genius that ain't crazy" phase. There's no growth here. 808s... MBDTF... Yeezus... These are albums about specific things with specific aesthetics. TLOP and this have just been hot messes. At least TLOP had a new sound to it. This doesn't really.

    Like I said, there are glimpses of something interesting. Big c---- showed me I Feel Like That, and that little track is great. Now imagine that track with verses that feel like could have been on his last two albums. It's certainly a juxtaposition, but it is a compelling one? Is the contrast illuminating? I don't think so.

    I don't mind that he doesn't have much to say about it. I can appreciate just the fact that he's putting that energy into the music so directly. And a lot of highly artistic/interesting people are crazy. It's not like it's BS. I feel you on the fact that he's been putting his crazy into his music for a long time though. It just clicked with me on that song more. I've never really felt the energy of Bipolar on a song more than I do on Yikes.

    I don't understand why it has to be illuminating or eye opening to be good artistically though. It would be nice to have some of that too but I don't need it to appreciate it. And just feeling it is enough to learn from it anyway. Makes me appreciate the struggle of the condition and feel more empathetic towards it.

    I Feel Like That is one of my favourite songs of his so I'm all for the praise of that song btw.

    this album is so disappointing. his lyrics are worse than ever, and none of the songs stand out to me. i'm not all that surprised because we saw the start of his downfall on the life of pablo.....but this is even worse. rappers when they are in kanye's age range........tend to put out work that isn't very good. there are exceptions, but generally that's how it works.

    i like the most of kanye's work, so i'm still shocked by how low quality this is compared to his other albums. you guys who think this is a very good album are kidding yourselves and you need your f---in ears examined.
