Sep 11, 2015Did Kanye outselling 50 Cent change the landscape of Hip Hop? Or did the changing landscape of Hip Hop cause Kanye to outsell 50 Cent?

Yeah you've read right. Favorite song of all genres. And objectively speaking it's not even the best Kanye song. I never get tired of this song no matter how often I play it. Cudis chorus and Kanye's "AND I CAN'T STOP." at the end is so f---ing beautiful. Even beats Runaway for me and I know I'm practising heresy when saying thisLast edited: Dec 23, 2020Ordinary Joel, Oldboy, Sav Stanfield and 12 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I can’t believe this album is 13 years old. Literally, it came out half my life ago. This project was the soundtrack to my whole eighth grade year. A classic, that also marks the end of an era for Kanye, which some people — who are dead wrong — think was his peak. Though, it probably marked his peak in popularity when it comes strictly to music (an argument for TLOP could be made though.) It also marked the end of another era, putting a cap on 50 Cent’s run as an A-list rapper, having outsold Curtis dramatically.
Let’s reminisce on a classic album.
From day one, after downloading a bootleg off Limewire, my favorite song on this was The Glory and my least favorite was Drunk and Hot Girls, which kinda sorta aged pretty well imo. Another memory I have is when my homie, Logan, who some of you know from my music with him in the creative section, won a three point competition at our middle school, and we crashed the floor “blasting” Champion off my RAZR lmao.

We know there was a lot of material in the works for Yeezus. If I remember correctly, Rick Rubin said that Kanye had three hours worth of songs he played him and that the record was also cut down from 16 to 10 songs. I assume that means there were at least six more complete-ish songs, plus a bunch of mumble demos/ideas/instrumentals. Only a few demos/early versions of songs from the album have leaked as far as I know, so we haven't heard much of that unreleased material.
For the school trilogy, Kanye always consulted leftover material from previous album sessions. Off the top of my head, versions of Hey Mama and Home(coming) were recorded pre-college dropout, but ended up tweaked and on LR/Grad. Though Kanye works a lot differently now than he did in the past, it would be strange for him to decide to make a successor to an album without consulting leftover material from the original.
My hope is that this is going to be a mixture of old songs that were supposed to be on that Yeezus 2 EP that never dropped, demos from the 2013 sessions that he went back to and finished this year, as well as some new songs that fit the vibe...cuz as much as I would love for this to be all Yeezus-era stuff, I don't think it's in Kanye's nature to just release an album of older material (and who knows how much was even finished enough). Then again, he did release that XTC song that was scrapped from ye, so who knows.
My worry, however, is that this album really has nothing to do with Yeezus and he's just calling it Yandhi out of some misguided notion of #FREETHINKING and #INDEPENDENCE. In which case this could be some of the stuff from the original album that he was gonna drop this year before he scrapped it and made ye in two days.
Regardless...I'm intrigued. After a lackluster album and all his gaffes, he certainly knows how to grab each section of his fanbase's attention by teasing this, Good a--- Job, and WTT2.lil uzi vert stan, Rodamon, JFK and 12 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

For the past few months I've been putting this album together, rearranging tracks to see what worked best where. It's built from actual leaks, fan remakes, snippets, and my editing in audacity. I cleaned up the songs as much as possible to make the mixing and volume as coherent as possible. Songs that leaked with abrupt endings were fixed and songs that sounded quiet or too loud were corrected. I did research and tried to credit as many people as possible in the composer part of each song, and tagged each song appropriately to make the album look as clean and genuine as possible for an unofficial album.
It's tough to finally put this out and stop working on it because I originally started working on it because I didn't know what to do with my loose tracks and I ended up putting them all together and naming it "Days Before Pablo". Once all the leaks started popping up in S80 I had the idea to put together my vision of So Help Me God as a conceptual album.
It's hard for me to act like I'm putting my album out because it's Kanye's album, I just visioned it. I really enjoyed putting the whole project together because it was like me pretending I'm working on Kanye's album, and it gave me something to do while I slowly worked on my own album. I can't even count how many hours I spent just trying to get transitions right on this thing and make the songs sound as clean and legit as possible. I was inspired partly by the extended version of yeezus that I've had on repeat since it came out, I wanted to make something kind of similar in concept of editing.
The first half of the album is basically the louder more fun part of the album with songs like All Day and U Mad. I Am Not Here/God Level was actually easy to put together and I didn't rework it more then twice. I cannot for the life of me find where I got the I Am Not Here remake from, and the intro part is from Kuci. All day was a mix of the OG w/Kendrick, the studio release, and Kuci's tour version. I mixed the sound on Nina Chop to make it louder and cut the abrupt ending that bothered me so much. I wanted to put Steve Hendrix from KTT's Can U Be Remake somewhere and after a while found it fit best at the end of Can't Look In My Eyes. I also redid the intro to the song with the Daft Punk sample because I didn't like Cudi's part at the start of the song.
On the second half of the album, Kanye is going through h--- and heaven and reflecting on his entire life. On Ultralight Prayer, I used the ULB extended remix that was released last night. I was going to put the album out last night but when that came out I knew I had to use it. I added in the thunder at the end to foreshadow Fall Out Of Heaven. I didn't put Tell Your Friends and When I see it together, someone sent it to me I'm not sure who did it. The last three songs on the album symbolize Kanye reflecting on his wife in Awesome, his daughter in Only One, and himself in I Feel Like That. Basically, reflecting on everything that matters to him to close the album.
I hope you all enjoy what I visualized So Help Me God would of sounded like if it came out, if you enjoyed the project show it to your friends and whoever else you know that stans Ye as much as you do. Thanks.
