    I have no problem with funk or soul music, rap is pretty much black music by default anyway, it's not a problem for me. Sure, the commercial appeal of GKMC may give you the impression that the diehard fans of that album aren't as likely to look into things as in-depth to you, but that simply is not the case.

    TPAB may be more complicated, more..I don't know, experimental, it's not a bad thing that the simpler approach (GKMC was a bit better overall) It's not as if I think TPAB is trash.

    exactly what I was about to post.

    I'm turning 31 so I feel like I have experienced a few more generations than some of you and to me gkmc just doesn't stand out. I'm sure it's a good hip hop album for this generation but I'd rather listen to my favorite rap albums (Illmatic, LS, reasonable Doubt, Aquemini, etc).
    I only jumped on the kendrick bandwagon when he dropped TPAB...

    Gotta be honest, I haven't been impressed by any newschool rapper and I don't find the rapping on tpab to be particularly outstanding either, but I find the music and the composition to be impressive, it reminds me of a lot of goat albums I used to f--- with when I was in high school: Unit Structures, Blue Train, The Sidewinder,... tpab can really stand strong against a lot of my favorite jazz and funk albums so to me tpab is better because kendrick is a better in this lane, he's a better artist than he's a rapper.
