Jan 3, 2016 good point. It seems like you got it right. He isn't talking about his external influences (jazz, soul, funk, classic rnb and the artists who worked on it), he's talking about making an uncompromised album and how the label is not gonna put their hand on the album.
Jan 3, 2016 Andreas Hale is one of the best writers & hip hop journalists right now, so I'm not even surprised
Jan 3, 2016 I definitely think he foreshadowed it before but I don't think he was talking about this on Hiiipower
Jan 3, 2016 Idk if it was foreshadowing towards tpab but I guess it can be taken that way. I figured it was more general as a few ppl have already stated before me. I take it as a f--- everyone's opinion do what you want, create your own path. To sum it up in 2 sentences
Jan 4, 2016 So, if going by his lyrics, is there anything that seems mentionable as a title or idea for his next album? Anything you heard that comes to mind?
Jan 4, 2016 I don't think he specifically foreshadowed TPAB, I think he was just expressing his feelings and they grew to the point where TPAB's central motif revolved around these topics he's clearly felt strongly about for years
Jan 4, 2016 Pretty much this. He wasn't really foreshadowing TPAB. and in my opinion, "build your own pyramids write your own hieroglyphs" doesn't foreshadow an album later in his career, but is more a recurring moral/thought Kendrick holds through his career. To the people saying he planned TPAB since before GKMC, can you please shut up? Because that's just wrong. Kendrick Lamar EP, OD tape all have themes that Kendrick has repeated or gone into more depth about later on in his career. Not just for albums, but his features too. He'll be featured on a song with a random C grade rapper, but still drop a small line or two about Sherane, his small run-in with compton g--- life and other personal experiences that don't make a lot of sense till you hear GKMC. You can't say TPAB was planned years ago, when a lot of the albums themes were only brought into Kendrick's life recently (and the themes of real-world events mentioned in the album were only from the past year). It's definitely not 'the album kendrick wanted to make but had to wait till after GKMC' or whatever you guys are saying lol.
Jan 5, 2016 You should be the one to shut up because TPAB was definitely planned years ago. like andreas hale said, if you know music, then you know kendrick was always gonna make tpab, sonically and musically, everything he made prior to gkmc prove that tpab was gonna be his next step. And he himself said tpab was supposed to be his 4th or 5th album but he said he was ready to drop it earlier in his career. Also, a lot of his close friends have talked about how kendrick was already talking about this album way before gkmc came out.
Jan 5, 2016 This coco guy is either new to kendrick or he missed the point... or maybe he doesn't know anything about jazz and funk history and he probably never saw tpab coming...
