i really hope he gonna work with herbie on this album. I don't care if its not mainstream, I want him to make the best music, not the most accessible. Pretty sure he agrees with this as well, thats why he thinks gkmc is his weakest work

he knows gkmc is easier to listen for the casual listeners, just like Eminem knows a song with rihanna would be more popular than a song like Bad Guy.

But SZA also said kendrick doesn't give a f--- about all that, he cares about his legacy the most.
I think he made it clear that he made gkmc first to get exposure so he can drop the music that he really wants to drop (albums like s80 & tpab probably)

oh yeah probably, kendrick is never going to have the same content twice

But its going to be jazz and funk influenced again, I'm sure of that. That's also what I want tbh... gkmc was cool butonly the mainstream fans would want another gkmc from kendrick. The purists, the hip hop heads, etc, we pretty much want another album like s80 or tpab.

Kendrick a real one, he could have asked the most popular producers to work with him in order to make another mainstream project to please the sheep fans, but instead he's working with george and herbie hancock.

Like that guy said in the tweet, this is how you know kendrick really is "about the music". Dude is definitely going with another timeless sound.

if hes working with Herbie then yeah, its gonna be more TPAB-ish in the sense that he'll try to incorporate the best elements of another black musical genre that influenced early hip hop. I'm pretty happy to see the guy making "kendrick" music.

I say "if" but its pretty much confirmed at this point. All the artists hes hanging with before working on a new album pretty much end up working with him on the actual project. It's all good news

You guys know Herbie doesn't only make blues, right? He also makes jazz music... and Kendrick, kamasi & herbie were talking about jazz fusion on twitter the other day.



Also, remember the last time kendrick went to an artist's house? (Ron isley, George Clinton?) He wanted to clear a sample and/or ask for a featuring

I really hope this album isn't too much like TPAB in terms of sound & subject matter. It was cool for that one album, but i want him to move on & do something different (sonically & subject wise) now, i don't want Kendrick to permanently become this funky, jazzy, ultra political, ultra conscious rapper.

It's cool if he drops a few of his preachy, TPABesque tracks (like the untitled's) here & there (i do enjoy some of that stuff, don't get it twisted), but fuuuuuck no i don't want another album of this type of work.

He told us almost 2 years before dropping tpab that he wanted to bring the original funky sound back to the mainstream and we got it. Now we know he's chilling with Herbie... inb4 the album drops in 2018

He & his producers have also talked about that a few weeks ago... they said hip hop is jazz, early hip hop was all about jazz, you couldn't have one without the other and it was the traditional and original west coast sound before the g-funk era. And it looks like he wants to stay in that lane.

Personally, I want him to stay in that lane, he probably understands that the absolute best music he can make is jazz influenced.
But him taking that route doesn't mean the content is going to be the same
