Dec 31, 2015 pretty sure "I never said that lol" implies that no, I do not think he was legitimately crying in the song but if he was it's not like we'll ever know
Dec 31, 2015 But the purpose of both these tracks are entirely different. You're comparing the two like they were meant for the same purpose. "His Pain" is Kendrick essentially telling us (the listeners) a story. "u" is us seeing Kendrick in despair. He's not rapping to us (the listeners) he's rapping to himself. These are his self-hating inner thoughts that are haunting him. "His Pain" is more "smooth" because "u" isn't meant to be smooth. It's meant to be gritty and haunting. Can you imagine a critic going up to Kendrick being like "hey man, I like your music and all but I think you over did it on that song "u." I mean I understand your friend got killed and you weren't able to go visit him in the hospital before he died. And I understand that you felt like you failed people in your home town despite all your success but like... I still think you did to much" lol.... Like what?
Dec 31, 2015 The screaming just doesn't fit with the writing, and the execution is mediocre The little interludes where he is "drinking" is one of the many examples that prove what I'm saying There's nothing authentic about the song aside from the lyrics
Dec 31, 2015 This is like the third time you've changed your argument at this point. Like I said earlier, you're throwing criticism out there hoping something sticks. The screaming bits, the cleaning lady talking, Kendrick drinking were all great additions to the track that added to the overall atmosphere of the song. We'll just leave it at that because you're bound to continue to change your argument lol.
Dec 31, 2015 How am I changing the argument? You asked me why I think the song sounds forced, here are my comments about it Screaming at the top of your lungs and trying to make it sound like you're crying doesn't do anything for me Song feels just as forced as the album itself I misunderstood his post
Dec 31, 2015 Because you went from the concept is forced to the execution is forced to saying it's not as "smooth" as "His Pain" despite the songs not being made for the same purpose to now "the screaming doesn't fit his writing" whatever that means.
Dec 31, 2015 I said the song itself is forced The rest is me trying to explain why I think the song feels forced
Dec 31, 2015 Lmaooo i dont wanna write paragraphs on a forum. @Pato is saying what i mean with that last post
