Feb 10, 2015 Decent song. Strong message. Kendrick started too aggressive, wish there was more a build up. Sounds like he's out of breath the entire track. Chorus is eh. f--- whitey!
Feb 10, 2015 Exactly I like that the song builds up with each verse and it explodes in the end stylistically this song feels similar to "i" with a different dynamic. The grittiness of the song and the energy is what makes it very appealing, I also enjoy the Jamaican influence on the hook since that culture/music is very prevalent to hip-hop here in NY.
Feb 10, 2015 i...what? why are we comparing those two songs? this is what i wrote about "blacker" when we dropped it: http://www.xxlmag.com/rap-music/new-music/2015/02/kendrick-lamar-blacker-berry/
Feb 10, 2015 Everybody @mention me lemme know what happens when you bump it in the streets especially if you're not African American...THE FIRE RISES
Feb 10, 2015 i mean, it's cool that you write for xxl but that blurb doesn't really clarify what you actually thought about the song, lol
Feb 10, 2015 No, I know, but the other poster was wondering what you thought about this track (and so am I lmao)
Feb 10, 2015 What do you mean "especially if you're not African American" you think people bumpin the song will make issues arise if they aren't black??
Feb 10, 2015 @Narsh i think your take is a little too #hot for me. what do you want from this song? it's bitter, it's militant, it's political but the crux is still an internal conflict. of course it's on the nose--it's kendrick. he doesn't deal in subtlety, never has, never will. i don't know how he makes a better song on the subject.
Feb 10, 2015 He's always been somewhat on the nose, but he's never been lazy. And the writing on this seems lazy to me.
Feb 10, 2015 the phrasing is natural, but tight, it feels conversational but it's technically impressive. that tension between global politics and internal uncertainty is a great, great convention. yeah, you're empirically wrong, lol. i'm not even a kendrick fan per se, and this isn't a hit, but it's pretty undeniable as a formal exercise.
Feb 10, 2015 I'm just happy we got some new Kendrick before WW3 jumps off...With this record Kendrick setting us up for a powerful album
Feb 10, 2015 Not bad, loved I and Untitled as well. The hype is a bit undeserved though with a bunch of ppl just posting fire gifs and trying to come up with fire puns. Was a decent track and the last verse basically saves the song. Can't wait for the album.
Feb 10, 2015 she said it in arabic so she said it with a proper grammar, i can laugh tho at your joke haha good joke mate we no speak english
