Mar 8, 2015I have a theory.
The beginning to the music video of "i" sounds like a a flying lotus beat, which could potentially be part of another song on the album. It's not until later on in the music video that "i" officially starts.
So, what if "i" is the second part of the 12 minute outro and the song we heard earlier in the music video is part 1? the song would be a dual track like sing about me/dying of thirst which would explain why "i" doesn't show up on iTunes because it would give away the name of the first part of the song. Anyone know who produced the beat in the beginning of the music video? It really does sound like flying lotus.
Now, I remember from the "i" music video that Kendrick is sleeping on the chair when all of a sudden a fight breaks out. Keep in mind that the alleged "flylo" beat is still playing in the background when all of a sudden Kendrick wakes up. If you look closely, it is kendrick who pulls the cord on the audio and shuts the music down! Thats when that one guy starts screaming and then "i" officially starts playing...so, is it possible that the entire album is all just a dream of kendrick? (which many people have already said, especially after the ending to TBTB ) and the pulling of the audio cord signifies kendrick's awakening and the beginning to part 2 of the 12 minute track?
I mean it would be a good song to finish the album with if he's trying to summarize the album and his main point.
The Blacker The Berry has already touched on modern issues, and we are confident Kendrick will continue to talk about these issues throughout the album. In Kendrick's interview with Billboard he said:
"What happened to [Michael Brown] should've never happened. Never. But when we don't have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within. Don't start with just a rally, don't start from looting -- it starts from within."
The "i" music video basically summarizes what Kendrick said to Billboard!!!! Don't resort to violence, but peace. Malcolm X vs. Martin Luther anyone???? We have multiple confirmations that this album will be very dark, aggressive, with gritty production, which will illustrate Kendrick's influences of Malcolm X. With that being said, it seems like Kendrick has always struggled to find his place on the Malcolm X/Martin Luther scale. Who does he side with more? This dilemma has been illustrated way before [untitled]:
I am (interlude) -- Kendrick Lamar Ep
"Ooh wee, that boy remind me of a young Martin Luther
The way he piece up troopers, then round up shooters
Like Malcolm X did, I stand for what I believe in
Family, God and honor"
HiiiPower -- Section.80
"Visions of Martin Luther staring at me
Malcolm X put a hex on my future, someone catch me
I'm falling victim to a revolutionary song,the Serengeti's clone"
Why is it that Kendrick always mentions these two historical figures together? He obviously doesn't know who to side with.
Ultimately, I think he sides more with Martin Luther, which is why he made a song like "i" and why I think he's ending the album with it. "i" really gets Kendrick's point across, and it is a good balance after the aftermath that is going to happen after tracks 1-16.
