first off, for those who haven't seen it:
What does it mean?
It looks like it's a direct reference to the book "To k--- A Mockingbird," which I bet a lot of you guys read in middle or high school. The book is about an innocent black man being prosecuted for a crime he didn't commit (pretty obvious why this would be relevant to Kendrick's album, we've been hearing that he's making a "pro-black" album for a while now and given all the recent press about blacks and the legal system I think this would be an especially relevant reference).
What does that title mean? Atticus Finch, one of the book's main characters, tells two of the younger boy characters that if they're going to go out back and s---t, they should be shooting at tin cans. If they do s---t at birds, s---t some blue jays, but don't k--- a mockingbird because all they do is sing for people and they don't hurt anybody. In the context of the book, the mockingbird is Tom Robinson, the black man on trial. Putting him to death is a sin because he wouldn't hurt anyone in his lifetime.
How does that relate to Kendrick? All he wants to do is sing songs for HIS people, like a mockingbird.
To p---- a Butterfly? In the most direct metaphor, Kendrick is the butterfly. He blossomed into one when he made it out of Compton and became a superstar. He's being "pimped" by the music industry as they whor- him out for features and try to sell him to a predominantly white mainstream audience. The point of the title is that it's just as much of a sin to p---- this kid from Compton out as it is to k--- a mockingbird. They're taking away his essence.
It's also easy to make a "Keisha's Song" kind of connection with that title, and I bet there will be at least one song along those lines on here.
UPDATE: Now for the "12 Homies in White House" part. The number 12 is probably a reference to the 12 disciples, and the White House not only represents America but whiteness in general. Should be a dope concept.
