GKMC leaked like a week before and it only sold 240K first week. Plus, the songs that have been released from this project like "I" and "King Kunta" have received mixed reviews from a lot of the hip hop community (meaning outside of this forum). "The Blacker the Berry" is the only track I've seen so far that's been predominately praised so say the album does leak and it's not what a lot of people want to hear, that could negatively effect sales.

Streaming actually is factored into Billboard sales as of sometime last year... not exactly sure how it works though, it's pretty complicated.

Just to make a comparison (to a movie because it's the best example I can think of), Shawhsank Redemption didn't win any of its 7 Oscar nominations, and only grossed $28m at box office. Same happens with music, if this album is a classic and as good as we are hoping it will get the sales overtime anyways.

^^ On Twitter I even saw someone say "1/3 with 'i' and 'King Kunta', hoping I'm not going to be disappointed with this album".
A lot of hype is leaving because from the songs so far, only one of them fit what people were hoping it would be.

i dont get that at all fam. Top dog said 1 mil 1 week. thats not happeneing if it doesnt leak atleast 4-5 days in advance o everyone can hear it and digest it, and if its a classic then it will sell up to 1m a week

I was actually interested in this myself a few months ago! So I did some searching and found this Billboard article.

"The updated Billboard 200 will utilize accepted industry benchmarks for digital and streaming data, equating 10 digital track sales from an album to one equivalent album sale, and 1,500 song streams from an album to one equivalent album sale."

Why would it matter to them, they dont make enough money from sales for it to matter to them and years from now we dont care how many it sold, instead the impact it had.

Good to know, what crazy algorithm could they use for that? The amount of people who listen to the album in full? Not really the same as an album sale though, since the value per song is so much cheaper.

Yeah which is like 3 people lol. And a lot of hip hop fans don't approach music with an open mind or with any type of objectivity. I'm sure there are a lot of hip hop fans expecting this to sound like Section 80 or GKMC and are going to be let down when they hear that it's different.

I'm just telling you, the feed back it's gotten so far from the couple tracks people have heard, hasn't been all that great.
