I've never seen you say anything positive about s80 either though. Maybe you have but it for sure got lost in the GKMC criticisms. Like, you only heard that for the first in a while last week, while others were hooked for 2 years now, so I'm just saying that maybe in time you'll realize that the kendrick vs em comparisons (album wise) are DEFINITELY viable.

I would say all three off these albums are better made than any Em album, except for TES.

Okay, guys... I'm 1.75 listens in and got some lunch (Kelly Ayotte was in my office so I ate the leftovers.)

Clearly an evolution here, thinking about GKMC... that was really lush, atmospheric, almost downtempo. The start of the TPAB is definitely a move forward soundwise in that regard, although as I said before the heavy g funk influence makes it a kind of spiritual heir to classic dre/snoop.
ive been grappling with how he concludes the album. its pretty bold. however, what i love about kendrick though is that he (to me) has an integrity about his projects that verge into self seriousness. but that said, hes got a kind of overall moral authority that i find refreshing in a world of nonstop singles and club hits. this is a complete concept, a true album

not a collection of disparate singles, and the fact he can accomplish that with vastly different soudns/themes is impressive. both gkmc and TPAB are complete works, so the only real mainstream comparison to be made to kendrick right now is kanye.

at the end, this album feels like its seeking to make a statement on the future of black america, which is why he - literally - is in dialogue with pac. kendrick is a surrogate for the inner conflict felt by millions in wake of trayvon, etc. pretty compelling effort for an artist of kendrick's stature. i wont say hes 100% successful, but this is a unique project from a somber moralitist. kanye (the pop artist) has rarely grappled with these sorts of issues with the same kind of hard earned heaviness.

Kendrick is heavily Andre 3000 influenced. Amazing to hear him building on that sound
