The core part of the song is what was improved tho?

The outro of the original was by far the best part. The last verse and the way it plays out

On the album they actually changed all that for the negus speech (which I don't mind)

The core part in the original had that weird voice, sounded too straightforward, and just like corny

The album version, although lyrics are same, is delivered in a way that makes it seem so crucial to the story arc/kendrick progression (or the character he plays or whatver)

It's defiant in its idea of self worth but in an aggressive and non compliant manner, rather than being overly sweet and even passive

The Album Version of I is better. But I wish it still has the 3rd verse from the original.

It's so much easier to enjoy GKMC, like someone said the separation of songs and structure are just so much more straightforward. For the reason you can understand why GKMC>TPAB
But, the complexity and everything on TPAB Is miles better, production, lyrics, even the overall story eclipses GKMC, it's like he's gone from a short home made movie to a Full feature film. A short story to an Epic poem.
I need more listens to be honest.

Oh no I agree that in the context of the album the new version works much better. I just meant as a standalone song, I'll play the singe instead of the extended version if Im in my car or something.

Exactly i dont get it either? Explain cus to me ot just sounds like some kid found a coincidence of letters and thought it was mind blowing. I hope its not going over my head.
When put into context of the butterfly representing the beauty, talent, and thoughtfulness within the caterpillar how does that fall into this theory of the crip and the bloods? @Young Sinatra ?

word to each his own then...i can't see myself ever going back to the original version of "i" unless it's for the outro. which against isn't so incredible that i need to listen to what i think is kind of a boring song

yup, good catch. its even outright suggested at the end of "u"

and there's the whole narrative about modern day kendrick coming to terms with his younger self in the form of a breakdown he had in a hotel room.

His younger, more menacing, consciousness was literally eating at him to the point of depression/suicidal tendencies and it took a lot of reflecting, and maturing, to get to where he's at now -- visiting his home more frequently, but to preach empowerment and help his neighborhood, rather than out of guilt and nostalgia, etc

No one has really noted that kendrick didn't attempt to do skits in this album like GKMC. That album was a story. This album is more conceptually built around that letter/poem he reads before pac speaks.

People really preferring the new I to the single version? Don't see that at all. Like, I totally understand that this works better for the album thematically, but that really doesn't make the song better, at all. I absolutely hate the "I love myself" vocals on the new version, and just ugh. I cannot believe that people prefer this version to the original. Like, I get the appeal of a more aggressive version of the song, but it was executed so poorly..

Yeah those b------s sound corny and he skips over lyrics. Since it's not even really live it was recorded in the studio to sound live they should have perfected the take. I don't understand.

You remember the two brothers of the i and TBTB cover? And that TDE image?

The theory says that the blood is the butterfly and the crip is the caterpillar. To = Two

    Would be 2 p---- A Butterfly = 2PAB

    2 p---- A Caterpillar = 2PAC

Meaning behind the title To p---- A Butterfly:

Caterpillars dont harm anyone, they are innocent and beautiful too.

There is also a theory in KTT that says there are two type of Kendricks in the album: A bad Kendrick (u, For Free, Hood Politics, How Much A Dollar Cost) and a good Kendrick (i, For Sale, Momma, Alright, Mortal Man)

The thing is that they are not really two brothers in the album. It could be just Kendrick fighting with his own conscience (u Vs. i, For Free Vs. For Sale, Hood Politics Vs. Complexion, etc) and later finding all the answers when 2Pac speaks with him in his dreams.

The album says that they are all black brothers no matter the color of the g---. Both groups grew up in the same horrible conditions. So the "Blood and Crips" thing is just a way to confuse the listener, because at the end of the day they are all equal.

This is just a theory, dont take it so seriously.
