Tbh it's our fault he changed the album version of i. We bashed the single so much and his voice on it that he turned it into basically a scene in the script of his movie.

can you expand on this? i'm not sure i follow. it's early, but it seems like the album is going to be really well received. which, as far as albums that take a creative left turn and kind of forego the mainstream route, kind of makes it feel like this never happened, like he can hit a reset for the next one. this isn't playing out like it was written or the new danger or the unplugged lauryn hill album. people are eating it up. i expect he'll be able to do whatever he wants, no?

we are rehashing old ground here but it will be soon be a decade and a half since he put out good music; i don't think that's kneejerk.

yeah but--and we're talking over the din here--the circle jerk over this album isn't exactly measured, either. people are falling over themselves to canonize the album and write dissertations on whether the butterfly was the villain in true detective or whatever. i'm obviously being flip in lots of my posts but idk

i doubt i'll be able to convince you of this, but my reactions to the album and its vocal supporters are entirely separate. i love doom, but not for the reasons most doom fans born post-1990 do, and they drive me insane; i dislike macklemore, but not for the reasons most people do. i don't say that to say i'm unique or whatever, i just react to rappers and their fanbases separately. i value my job and my reputation too much to trash a record i don't actually think is bad just to make a point.

So Kendrick refers to both uncle sam(America) and Lucy(supposedly Lucifer) as calling themselves his dog. Is the intention here to suggest both america and the devil are his 'servants' it seems but in reality they are both abusing him, he is the butterfly(human) appearing to be higher than the catapillar(USA and satan) but in reality he's used. But to go further is he suggesting the U.S. and the Devils intentions are one in the same?
