So prominent critic Anthony Fantano just rated this album a 10/10.
Just to give a little scope, he has only given two other albums a 10 on initial release.
Believe the hype guys, our n----- made it.

Me telling Swizz not to bother trying to have a contrarian point of view with the people on this site regarding Kendrick means that I'm bi-polar because I don't want to discuss this album? K. Stop giving me notifications, you're annoying as f---.

"It's albums like these that people use as benchmarks in music history"
"Kendrick Lamar is the face of rap for the next generation"
"Album represents a final turning of the page of the bling era, which rap has been desperately trying to hold on to"
So there we have it. Certified classic.

No you saying it's pointless to discuss the album on this site, as if YOU want to discuss it but can't because this site is bias or whatever, and then coming back to tell me that there shouldn't be ANY in depth discussions at all right now, made me think you were bipolar

Sorry i didn't know you were just stepping in to make a pointless comment towards Swizz, my b

Oh and lets also ignore the fact that Swizz himself said there have been valid points made against his own criticisms but that he's too busy to address them at the moment

    lmfao

people that come on to an online forum and then act like actually participating in it is "embarrassing" or whatever <<<<<<<<<<<<<

Jesus, so we've gone from discussing an interesting, if overhyped (and perhaps flawed) album to just this weird psychodrama dance between the forum 'old guard' and the younger, more enthusiastic generation of fans

Gurantee if Kendrick was asked he would say that isn't what it means. I think he is more so looking at Pac for guidance rather than considering himself a successor to him.

I didn't ever say I wanted to discuss the album, I've listened to the album once through and skimmed here and there. It's gonna take a lot more time to formulate a real opinion. But if I did want to discuss it, I'm confident that I wouldn't find myself in any kind of discussion on this site that would be worth my time because from what I've seen it's just a whole lot of dickriding, and there's no chance I'll ever love this album enough to say some of the s--- I'm reading here about it.

I'm calling the early dickriding embarrassing, not the general discussion of the album, or discussion in general.... If you missed that, you're a f---ing idiot. Stop trying to change the few things that I've said to make it look like I'm contradicting myself. I made a comment to Swizz about my concerns over having a discussion right now from a contrarian point of view. Sorry that it clearly made you so upset and was so pointless to you, I'll PM him next time so I don't have to endure the rath of Vishnu through the excessive emotions of Narsh.

Partially correct, throughout the album we see this buildup that leads to the "interview" with Pac on "Mortal Man" in which Kendrick is asking his hero for answers to certain questions. But by the end of the song Pac doesn't reply to Kendrick's question (people pointing out the obvious, he's dead, but there's a deeper meaning), and that, I think, signifies that the "King" has now lost the throne (he has died), and now Kendrick is his successor.

Well it's also the fact that your comment to swizz was pointless seeing as how he agreed himself that viable feedback was giving to counter his own complaints, and that hes too busy to respond

So you telling him it's pointless to discuss counter viewpoits on this cite, as if no one is capable of having a rational, unbiased convo, is offensive to me and all my essays brah

And if you missed all the posts actually discussing the album, rather than just "d-ck riding" as you put it, well I don't really blame you lol this threads moved pretty fast at times and a lot of people (including myself) are guilty of using it solely as an "appreciation thread"

basically, just as how you think I'm misappropriating your points, I think your painting this thread/site in the wrong light. You just haven't seen/paid attention to anything but the d-ck riding posts, or you have and you told yourself it's "embarrassing" or whatver to go that in depth so soon

So actually, I don't really know what your problem is at the moment...people are either d-ck riding and not discussing the album unbiasedly, or discussing too in depth.

Would you like a whole thread of people posting "hmm interesting album, will get back to you in 3-4 months?"

Dunno, regardless of all that, there's a perception both high profile albums are in competition against one another. Kendrick is a different artist than ye, so people are reasonably or not seeing a connection between the few tpab critics also being typically big fans of kanye. haven't bothered reading all this sniping back and forth, but making the connection on its face isnt wild.

"embarrassing" is a little much, but the interview does feel a bit like when GOP candidates evoke Reagan (another "prophet") in speeches/ads as if it's some sort of beyond the grave endorsement. That's troublesome to me. Personally, I think the whole thing would be a lot less of a schtick if you only heard Kendrick's side of the conversation. Pac is the kind of talent that you DO feel like he's conversing with you through his music -- but of course he isn't. I would've preferred if sampling some old interview was cut. or something.

you can't rly dispute the fact that manyyyyy ppl see pac as a kind of rap prophet, that hes an icon trapped in time or whatever, like a hip hop jfk
