well this is probably because you skimmed past any real discussion of the album as a whole, claiming that the forum isnt fit for it, and then try to push certain, specific, topics that interest you

not saying they arent good discussions to be had, or that you shouldnt be bringing these points up (you should), but no one here's gonna give you leeway to do so if they think you're being dismissive of the album off the bat.

yeah he's ashamed that he did what he signed up to do lol. also whats done (for a majority, at least nowadays) is from of a place of entertainment, or humor, or creativity -- not malice. but this is a different discussion

I mean idk, what kendrick said in reference to trayvon is a very legitimate concern and any black person who's genuinely offended or "hurt" by the line is blind to a lot of the s--- that goes on inside their own community

If you'd like to discuss the poltics behind the album, that's all well and good. It's a very interesting discussion to have (I rarely agree with @ImmortalTechnique but his post is worth going back to), but it's frustrating because you've lobbied pretty narrow-minded criticisms at the project, without going into depth (where's the WPG who reviewed Recovery??). I still don't understand why you hate the title or writing on this album.

And then ask the question about race, and immediately you bring up your friend who was offended by the Kendrick line, implying that Kendrick's message on Blacker the Berry is insulting to his black listeners.

I think we are all just sitting here, confused about your position, and frustrated that you're going to such lengths to avoid giving this album any credit.

i mean, come the f--- on. i wanted to have a discussion about it, and you jump to the defensive. (the irony here is that you rly don't like black ppl/gay ppl/women but that's another topic for another time.)

i'm not going to any lengths to do it--do you really think that i would be straining myself to argue a position i didn't believe in? why is the simplest explanation, in your mind, that i have one opinion i hold secretly but are trying in vain to convince people i think something else? where's the logic in that?

Don't put that great phrase in quotes. Why, I've been discussing the album fine here -- sure theres a bunch of stupid s-----y posts to glaze over, but thats no reason to avoid an honest argument.

I sense you dont want to publish your thoughts bc you are worried you will eat crow later. Is that a calculation at all?

Fair, although I would 100% read with an open heart an articulate explanation of why the album is a misfire. As you undoubtedly know, this is a weird period for a high profile album like this -- so much hot air. Someone needs to say the emperor has no clothes. Some might say its your duty to not go gently into the night.

on another note, @Narsh, if you really think nocan's op-ed has no merit then i think you're expressing a weirdly cynical worldview. sure, battles might be something you watch for 16 minutes once every two weeks, but when that's literally how you feed your family day in and day out, you have to empathize with a guy who doesn't want to call people "fa----" anymore.

The album is loved by Critics, other artists(including Kanye and Taylor swift, your favourites), the people love it.
It is not straightforward pop, it carries a message which is both introspective and political.
It extends over multiple genres of music and even multiple literary styles.
There is a vast array of flows. The production is fantastic. Kendrick's lyrics are mostly on point. What is there to hate?

Can't you accept once you may just be incorrect about this album? Or even that your opinion is after all an opinion not a fact that everyone must accept.

People in here are obviously overhyping it, it happens. You are being a hater for the sake of discussion and debate. Like people have stated, articulate on your dislikes for parts of the album. You're not going to get 'burnt at the stake' for saying I "I felt X was weak because..." This is a poor argument to not post, you've come in the thread saying 'I hate the album, period.' How much more hated on can you get?
