It's not that he's not as "cryptic" as I'd like, it's that he's not cryptic AT ALL. lol

on my first one or two listens, when i wasnt really paying attention to the writing, i thought dude was just going off, rapping well, and called himself god. i was like dope

then when i actually paid attention, it turned to just be kind of lamem concept wise...maybe im being reactionary to the people calling it some sort of deep revelation.

it works perfectly fine (very well actually) as a straightforward tale about being humble, looking at life from other people's perspectives, etc. so im sure down the road i wont have any problems with it, but right now I felt like the pretty elementary concept needed to be pointed out

i think kendrick dumbing down some of the writing is purposeful because of the kind of reach he wants this album to have.

but then again, it's not too hard for critics to look at this as kendrick show signs of declining. he's made missteps with his writing in the past (real, for example).

Yeah I could see why critics would say it's a decline in his writing but I just see it as his audience 'ain't got time to waste time' on analyzing his s---. Could be wrong but it just doesn't line up with other stories where he so great with the subtleness and climax.
