like, you champion open mike eagle... i feel like a good percentage of rap fans a. havent heard of him, but more importantly b. wouldnt feel that style -- that is to say, advocating for specific artists isnt a negative. being contrary isnt pejorative ya know

but thats only a fractional of my measured response/thoughts tho

i know you're going to snap back "no" to that, but the problem with what you're saying is that it would only be valid if i had a specific stylistic leaning. do i review open mike eagle positively? sure. but i also review lots of chief keef's work positively, or kilo g, etc etc etc. if i think something is good, i say so, regardless of its stylistic markers. i think that's been demonstrated pretty clearly. i'm not "an art rap guy," i just like good art rap the same way i like good drill rap.

im arguing characterizing your viewpoint as contrarian isnt inaccurate based off some of the artists you like and more specifically the tone you take in defending your specific opinions - its a neutral term, own it

this is really, really semantic, though--contrarion in this context is almost always going to mean someone going against the grain on a popular album. also, my take on dark comedy isn't contrarian at all--it got almost no negative reviews. it was on USA Today's top-ten list across all genres.

I disagree -- I didn't like Guardian of the Galaxy, but i loved foxcatcher. 9/10 thats a contrarian stance with the average moviegoer
