Metacritics is a joke, pathetic way to judge success. Make something even a little bit artistic (even if it fails) and it gets a rating over 90 because it's "different".

Cole has 3 classics in The Warm Up, Friday Night Lights, and 2014 FHD, so that's 3 classics to 2.

Macklemore has 4 Grammy's, and Kendrick won 2 for one of the worst songs of his career

I was expecting bigger numbers since he's just a bigger presence now than what he was before but it's still a large amount at a time where no one buys music anymore...myself included . Either way it got praise and it's going platinum so it's whatever

Its clear that the lack of sales was because of the lack of communication and distribution from Interscope to the stores. Users in this thread even stated that they went to their local Best Buy or w.e. and couldnt find the album. Its poor distribution that caused these poor sales. nothing else. If the distribution was on point then I am sure that we would not be having this discussion. Just look at the streams.

I like him, but he hasn't substantially approved in any way since his tapes. And if he has, it's in ways only die hard fans can point out lol. Which is all well and fine, but from the outside looking in, he still hasn't made an incredible or even "really great" album even with TSS BS and FHD

At their best, they're good projects for sure, but each Cole album has such a short shelf life for me

He retreads a lot of the same topics, and is never all that engaging too me

He's most certainly not one of the best rappers alive or anything, which some of the people in your corner treat him as

The people in our corner don't really treat him as such. For three of the OG's in our section (@Kvp187 , @Mike Tyson, @ODB) Cole is not even their favorite rapper, probably not even top three for any of them. Most of us like Cole and definitely think he's one of the best doing it right now and so do a lot of people outside our corner. But its not like we think he's the greatest ever or anything. The dickriding is not even touching the levels of this thread.

People really falling for bait these days lmao...I don't want to derail this thread away from discussion about K.Dot's latest & greatest but I'll just give some quick thoughts. Cole earned a nice place for himself in the hip-hop community and to me finally made a studio album that lasted in my rotation for more than a month, I see him still developing as an artist and hopefully he'll continue a nice upward trend. By comparison Kendrick flew out the gate swinging with incredible consistency and is the apotheosis of his generation. I celebrate both of them along with a few others at a time where for whatever reason people actually believe hip-hop is declining.
