Maybe he tries too hard to conceptualize everything (and i think it's the main weakness of tpab, maybe it's because Gkmc's concept was so brilliant that he tried to re-catch the magic and failed) but i have the feeling that he's an humble artist

Yeah, I would never fully discredit an album like this after one listen.

To me, these sessions reveal if Kendrick just goes into the studio and doesn't overthink a narrative construct for an album he makes amazing music. When he starts thinking about audience reception his music feels forced.

If any of you saw him on the Kunta Tour his live material of T.P.A.B is far superior than the recorded final album.

The poem felt like he was leading the audience by the hand as did the final end with Tupac like he coudn't trust his audience to read between the lines.

I love T.P.A.B but there are legitimate criticisms of the album.

I noticed a few times that a discussion with @WPG always ends quickly, after one or two answers he suddenly stops caring about the shitposter you are

    GQ: genius

guardian: Quite what Untitled Unmastered is supposed to be is an intriguing point. You could argue that it seems like an addendum to To p---- a Butterfly, in that initial impressions suggest pretty much anything here could sit comfortably on that album: it doesn’t feel like the radical departure that its predecessor did from 2012’s Good Kid, MADD City. Equally, the fact that pretty much anything on it could sit comfortably on that record tells you something about the quality of what’s here. Cheeringly, it doesn’t sound like music made by someone buckling under the weight of expectations that follow such a vast critical and commercial successs. Instead, it sounds like the work of someone who’s in it for the long haul.

    Interesting point.
I have to agree that when an artist wants too bad to makes art, he doesn't make art anymore
But tpab is still overhated on the forum

thats because he adds energy and a lot of drums were added to the beats to appeal to the casual listeners, the recorded final album is still much better from a musical standpoint,

mehhh the songs that i strongly disliked on tpab weren't even that important to the narrative. like you could toss out at 'for sale?' 'how much a dollar cost' and 'complexion' and replace them with some of these superior untitled tracks and it wouldn't make a difference to tpab's sloppy storyline. the songs would just be better.

Maybe this was released so that the expectations for Kendrick's 4th album would be lowered. Like how do you top TPAB? Just release a good compilation album and bring everyone back to earth.

Like kamasi washington's work on tpab is definitely is absolute best work ever, but you can't replicate that live, it wouldn't have been interested, he had to make them songs more "stadium". It was more hype but you can deifnitely tell it wasn't as good as the final album, just different and dumbed down for those not familiar with jazz music

Based on my own experience, casual listeners didn't fork out money to see him on the Kunta Tour.

If he's adding energy to the track he changes the experience. Delivery can make or break a song.

Additionally, he changed song structures which made them unique.
