"Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed fourth studio album d---. has already gone platinum — in less than three weeks.
K.Dot’s major label Interscope made the announcement that it has now shipped in access of 1 million copies and hence, certified platinum by the Recording Industry of America. Kendrick’s incredible new album opened at number 1 on the Billboard 200, moving 603k copies in the first week. It earned the feat of becoming the biggest debut of the year, beating Drake’s More Life."

This track I feel is the most representative piece of music Kdot has made and probably will make. What I mean is from this point onward the track I'm gonna associate with him and what I believe embodies who he is as a rapper will be this song. Not only is it brilliant within the album itself because it brings the concept full circle but it is also representative of Kendrick and his abilities as a rapper and all the things that make him a great artist.
This song probably isn't gonna be a single or be his most popular track or w/e, and it may not even be the one that people like the most, but with it Kendrick crafted his own origin story and I love it
Just watch this track will be legendary with age

So while it's pretty obvious that d---. has a much more loose and up-for-interpretation concept that Kendrick's previous three projects, there is obviously an underlying narrative that ppl have been explaining in their own ways
one important piece to the puzzle (if not the most important) is this phrase "what happens on earth stays on earth" that is not only repeated by Kid Capri throughout the album but is also in the albums booklet (!)
did a little digging and found some analysis on this
according to rap genius page on Holy Bible (yes this is on rap genius wtf): https://genius.com/1611734 , this saying is a paraphrase of 1:Timothy 6:7 which reads:
"For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out."
However thats not all to do with this phrase, as Kendrick actually says it himself on the last verse of FEAR. (the track that gives us the most insight into the overall album meaning) when gives clarity into the fact that these 14 'tracks' are 'feelings' that he has on Earth:
"I'm talkin' fear, fear of losin' creativity
I'm talkin' fear, fear of missin' out on you and me
I'm talkin' fear, fear of losin' loyalty from pride
'Cause my DNA won't let me involve in the light of God
I'm talkin' fear, fear that my humbleness is gone
I'm talkin' fear, fear that love ain't livin' here no more
I'm talkin' fear, fear that it's wickedness or weakness
Fear, whatever it is, both is distinctive
Fear, what happens on Earth stays on Earth
And I can't take these feelings with me
So hopefully they disperse
Within fourteen tracks, carried out over wax
Searchin' for resolutions until somebody get back
Fear, what happens on Earth stays on Earth
And I can't take these feelings with me
So hopefully they disperse
Within fourteen tracks, carried out over wax
Wonderin' if I'm livin' through fear or livin' through rap"
Notice how throughout this verse he references the titles of several songs as well. This track (FEAR.) is about how Fear has affected Kendrick throughout his life (in ten year intervals-- 7, 17, 27). The verse above (verse 4) speaks on fear as it applies to Kendrick CURRENTLY.
These feelings (these songs) are what Kendrick fears of losing when he leaves Earth, because he can't take them with him.
But why is Kendrick leaving Earth? Why is this happening? And how does it connect this album-- these fourteen tracks carried out over wax, these feelings.
Top Dawg spared Ducky, allowing himself and Kendrick to meet up 20 years later and produce this music and become the greatest rapper ever. Top didn't have to serve life. Kendrick had a father and didn't die in a gunfight
But Ironically in the end, 20 years later, he was killed by blind Lady Justice (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Justice) because out of the kindness of his heart he was trying to help her find something she lost. ("Love's gonna get you killed")
And so as Kendrick is dying from this gunshot (literal or otherwise) and is in the process of leaving this Earth and seeing his life flash before his eyes as he dies, these 14 tracks are what he's thinking about and what he's leaving behind on wax (in the form of music) because he can't take them with him from Earth. That is death
tl:dr Kendrick is shot by lady justice and these 14 tracks are his life flashing before his eyes and what he fears of losing and that's why what happens on Earth stays on Earth is such an important phrase on this album because kendrick can't take these feelings with him so we get this album
sorry if this long winded

- Thread: That Compton / Africa image...
Feb 16, 2016
Kendrick Lamar stole the show with his performance last night, so much so I was inspired to create an profile generator (it's ad-free / non-commercial) to replicate the imagery of the "Compton" / Africa image that was shown at the end of the performance. I really thought it was powerful imagery. Here's the profile image generator http://www.wealright.com. got this from some people on another board...
PBS did a special live taping back in October last year in Austin, TX. I was fortunate to see him perform for the first time. He played his new single "blue faces" which I didn't know at the time till I heard it again on Jimmy Fallon. Anyway had alot of fun and performance was amazing. Cant wait for his new album!

Article Source: HipHopDX - http://hiphopdx.com/news/id.36384/title.kendrick-lamar-inspired-david-bowies-★-album
by VICTORIA HERNANDEZ on November 23rd 2015
David Bowie is seeking to make more than just a Rock album with his ★ project.
David Bowie is preparing the release of his ★ album (pronounced "Blackstar") and his producer, Tony Visconti, says he is looking for a different direction than his previous Rock sound.
"We were listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar," Visconti says to Rolling Stone. "We wound up with nothing like that, but we loved the fact Kendrick was so open-minded and he didn't do a straight-up Hip Hop record. He threw everything on there, and that's exactly what we wanted to do."
The Compton, California rapper's sophomore album, To p---- a Butterfly, features music from a variety of genres. Lamar enlists George Clinton and Snoop Dogg on the LP, among other musicians.
Despite some calling it a "Black" album, Lamar's producer, Terrace Martin recently said To p---- a Butterfly is much bigger than that.
"More than pro-Black, I believe this album has become pro-human being, pro-everybody," he said. "Playing this music for a mixed crowd is simple because we don’t look at it as a mixed crowd. We look at it as our relatives within the art community, where we don’t experience Black and White or none of that bs that the police and the government got us going through as Black people. Within the art is a place of safety."
Bowie's album will be Bowie's twenty-fifth and is scheduled for a January 6 release.DeletedAccount, CavalierTD, gorealsteady and 8 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Its fans.
I was scrolling through FB comments for his recent Colbert performance (terrible idea, I'm aware of this) and the majority of supporters basically said this:
"If you don't think this album is amazing, you're an idiot that doesn't know music. You probably love Migos and that dumbass Young Thug and actually think DS2 is a good album. You have to be intelligent to understand this art."
TPAB is the country club of rap albums and (it seems like) a lot of its fans are its snobby members. People that automatically love any rap that isn't talking about b------s over a trap beat now think they're above others because they like this particular sound.
TPAB created a bunch of cocky, "I'm smarter and better than everybody" douchebags.
