That's the ARTIST'S decision. Kendrick Lamar thought he needed 16 tracks and that's perfectly fine. It was up to him to maintain that consistency in quality for 16 tracks because that's what he chose. You're acting like someone aimed a gun at Kendrick's head and told him to do 16 tracks. Judge these albums on what they are, not what they're not. Illmatic is 40 minutes long. TPAB is over an hour long. Illmatic is enthralling for its entire 40 minutes, not because it's shorter, but because those 40 minutes are lyrically and musically impressive. TPAB is not as enthralling, not because it's over an hour long, but because it's not as impressive. What you're saying is basically the equivalent of saying "oh, this two hour movie isn't as good as this movie that's an hour and half long, but it's harder to maintain quality for two hours so I'll cut it some slack". Makes no sense.
Mar 18, 2015 Its not the same, a longer movie requires more time of recording but using only the same script, creating new tracks with new beats and new concepts it's a creative process completely different. I don't know when Nas did say that but you are talking like I deny the fact of Illmatic being a classic. Its a great record but you are underrating a lot TPAB and denying any kind of comparison with Illmatic. I don't like any Kanye West record. That means I'm going to deny any comparison of those albums with other Hip Hop classics? Don't be close minded.
Mar 18, 2015 I like Kendrick as much as the next guy, but... c'mon Illmatic > GKMC It Was Written > TPAB They're both great of course, and it's not hard to fathom Kendrick surpassing him one day. Would love a collab song between them though. Is Nas working on a new album?

I've been comparing them this entire time. What do you think this discussion has been about? Not comparing them? Lol. No, compare them. I'm comparing them right now. Illmatic is better. I'm saying when you compare them, you should not be taking in the length of the records into account. Because that s--- doesn't matter when talking about the quality of the music. Illmatic is a better album because of the music, not because it's 20-30 minutes shorter.

Tell me something, you really think that still today Illmatic is musically better than TPAB? We are living in a different time where you can do all kind of music with a computer. TPAB got every kind of sound you can ask for. I don't blame Illmatic, I'm just asking you for a honest answer.
Mar 18, 2015 Kendrick is closer to passing Jay Z than he is to Nas. Imo GKMC and TPAB s--- on Reasonable Doubt and The Black Album, but not Illmatic/It Was Written

Mar 19, 2015 I forgot that one, I havent listened to it too many times tbh. I say only because I believe Kendrick has plenty of time to catch up and create as many classics at Nas did. I voted for Nas comfortably, but by the time Kendrick settles down he has the potential to change my vote.
