I also thought dumb and dumber to was pretty good, people had their expectations way too high and expected to enjoy it as much as they did when they watched the 1st one when they were 8 years old or whatever.

There were some funny parts and that's all I really cared about, didn't care much about the story or script. Just gotta sit back and enjoy a movie like that, not over analyze everything or compare it to the 1st.

    Breaking the girls: 5/5

A movie I found on netflix tonight, d--- it surprised me. I'm a sucker for movies with great twists and let's just say...this had it. A lot of lesbian action that may bother some people or excite others, but the mystery of the story was great. I won't give anything away in case anyone wants to check it out too, but I loved it, might watch it again to make sure I understand everything lol. Kind of a slow build to start but I don't mind that.

The first thing I noticed was the contrasting depth of frame. The fore and background are played against each other early and often, frequently underlining a division between characters. The rare use of color punctuates the emotional overtone. The grand architecture reinforces the authority of the Fascist party, its emptiness signifying the social apprehension that claiming each other as comrade won't change. Lots of information in the frame at all times. Though showy in presentation, it is meaningfully composed.

Plato's Cave is a significant political metaphor. How a blind man can't be led astray by the illusory. How conforming to falsehood is either a defense mechanism or simply cowardice. How one can project their own shadows unknowingly, here in regards to sexuality. The two faced ways of espionage are a practical vehicle to explore identity in this way.

I'm going to have to watch this again to fully understand it all. An incredible film all around.

Also, that scene from Skyfall where he hops into the shower with the girl who just confessed to being molested? Yeah, I think they lifted that from this film. If so, it's a subtle homage that omits the details that make it seem organic. Here it's a closeted man mimicking affection he can't feel. In Skyfall it was just creepy as h---.

I watched most of Philip K d-ck's adaptations over the past few weeks.

    Blade Runner - 10/10
    Total Recall(1990) - 7.5/10
    Screamers - 4/10
    Minority Report - 8/10
    Impostor - 3.5/10
    Paycheck - 4/10
    A Scanner Darkly - 10/10
    Next - 1/10
    The Adjustment Bureau - 6.5/10
    Total Recall(2012) - 5/10

Blade Runner and A Scanner Darkly are absolute masterpieces. I ended up watching them again immediately after the first time.

      Locke 2014
      ★★★ Watched 19 Jan, 2015

Overly sensational pillow shots and dissolves replete this mediocre concept film made engaging solely by Tom Hardy's magnetism.

      65- Decent.

Precision and detail ornament this aesthetically and narratively pure examination of quiet suffering. Stunning.

      96-Masterful

Blackhat has so much good stuff, but also so much silliness. In all of the shootouts there have been in cinema's history, still no one does them like Michael Mann. Likewise, no one quite captures nighttime cityscapes and people looking cool as f--- in sunglasses like Mann. Unfortunately, the script is an often preposterous mess, but more problematic is that it doesn't really deliver on the promise of its intriguing premise. Mann directs the s--- out of it though and his increasingly impressionistic action aesthetic almost overcomes the script its tethered to.

Currently watching the new Ninja Turtles movie and OMG the special effects are flat out HORRID. Lol @ Splinter's appearance. What the h--- is wrong with Michael Bay? How does this guy continue to get work? He destroyed the Transformers franchise now it looks like he's doing the same to Turtles.

EDIT: Watching the part where Splinter is getting beat up by Shredder. Lmao, who the h--- gave this movie clearance to be released? And the part where the Turtles are kids or whatever. Wtf they look like god d--- burn victims.
