      The Trip 2010
      ★★ Watched 05 May, 2015

A number of funny improvised skits and tons of imitations make up the B*** of this tiresome and under-directed film.

      Ex Machina 2015
      ★★★ Watched 05 May, 2015

Written for Aesthetics of the Mind: aestheticsofthemind.wordpress.com/2015/05/06/ex-machina-alex-garland-2015-usa/

A relatively imaginative undertaking of a not so original concept: artificial intelligence. The interesting difference is that notions of artificial intelligence are placed in the background of a truly more archaic humanity/morality piece.

The film establishes tropes and techniques in the thriller genre to create an exciting, action-filled, story arc which simply does a disservice to any and all intriguing ideas of consciousness, artificial intelligence, and human morality held in the film.

Ex Machina manipulates the viewer by using these cinematic techniques such as special effects and sound to divert one’s attention. It focuses far too heavily on controlling the viewer’s emotional experience. For example, due to cinematic elements, Nathan (Oscar Isaac) is regarded as a creep, a villain, etc.. What else is a viewer to think when the camera slowly closes up on him, drunk and in the darkness, while eerie music fills the background.

Such techniques are used to keep the viewer in a certain position in order to be able to surprise them later. When character intentions are revealed and the viewer realizes something is very different from how it first appeared, it is more exciting. Through these means, the film manages moderately to captivate and entertain, but surely it does not achieve anything beyond this, and thus will long be forgotten in time to come.

      68/100 – Decent

I have to say, I thought this was executed brilliantly.. I enjoyed it for the most part..an original horror film, since we don't have many of those these days. I have to say, I was kinda confused with the ending. I will definitely pick this up on Bluray, very well done.. 7.6/10
Did they finally k--- "It", or was it still following them at the end?

It's purposely left open to audience interpretation. No definite answer either way.

Really entertaining film about a young British soldier who gets isolated from his unit in Belfast during the early days of the Troubles. Jack O'Connell was great as usual. 8/10

    Fast 7
It actually made me say "f--- off" out loud about 5 times, but I really enjoyed it for the big, dumb action film it was. 7/10

    Interstellar
I bought this on blu ray the day it was released but I've not really had the time to watch a 3 hour film these days. I'm glad I finally did though, I really enjoyed it. 8/10

    Veronica Mars
It was quite cool seeing the old cast from the tv show, which I used to love back in the day, but the film itself was meh. 5/10

Avengers: Age of Ultron - Great film! Was very comedic and awesome. Liked it much more than the first one. The first one dragged on a bit too long for my liking. This one I prefer over the first for sure. Will most likely buy this one. My favourite part of it below....

Best scene was when Thor was a bit nervous that Captain America was able to slightly move his hammer but not wield it. Only to, late in the movie have the vision pick it up like it's nothing with Thor standing there like "right...let's go" lol.
