Saw Woody Allen's latest Irrational Man...It's a hard movie to talk about without spoiling, so if you want to go in completely fresh, definitely skip my vague first impression.

Overall, it's probably a more interesting movie than it is a good one, though I'll have to see how it holds up. It features many of the problematic aspects of late period Allen...characters repeatedly spelling out the movie's themes, lackadaisical plotting, and haphazard direction at key points. It also recycles themes and plot elements from a dozen, mostly superior Allen films, most notably Match Point and Crimes and Misdemeanors. With that said, however, it is also one of the stranger films in Allen's oeuvre.

Around midway, the film takes a sudden dark turn, but that turn is not treated with any gravity but is instead handled in a surprisingly matter-of-fact manner. The music in particular in the second half seems to convey a light-hearted romp, which is entirely mismatched tonally with the content on the screen (though Allen does include a few moments of humor throughout). That seeming disconnect between form and content is at first startling but actually befits the psychology and morality of its protagonist perfectly. What initially seems clumsy is actually thornier and more intriguing than it appears on the surface and helps the audience see things from the character's warped perspective, if only for a fleeting moment.

The Drop - 9.5 / 10. Tom Hardy definitely gave his best performance in this movie. The casting in general was incredible, but Hardy gave one h--- of a performance. The Drop intrigued me the whole way through, and i wanted it to keep on going when it ended.

Maze Runner - 7 / 10. Not a great movie, but it was worth watching. The acting was decent for the most part, and the story wasnt bad either. Hopefully part 2 will be a little better.

He's characteristically good and well cast. It is definitely the sort of part you'd expect him to nail.

Just took my son to see Minions. He liked it. But as an adult I found it painful to sit through. The Minions' gibberish is funny here and there. But it gets old with them trying to carry a two hour movie on their own. The other Despicable Me movies were better.

I went into it think this is either going to look stupid as f--- or it will actually be pretty good. The director did such a good job with the film and was able to capture the character without it looking bad.

Plot was pretty standard for a super hero movie, overall if you want to see a good super hero movie go watch it.

Ex Machina is one of the best sci-fi films in recent years and is truer to the genre than most of its competition. I read mainly pulpy sci-fi like Philip K d-ck but I think this film incorporates some harder elements into it pretty seemlessly. For such an accesible mystery type plot, there are still a lot of ideas to savor and turn over afterwords. What qualifies as human? Which characters are the inhuman ones? How does the ending redefine the movie as a whole? Is Oscar Isaac on steroids? Would I f--- a robot? Overall, I'd rec this to just about anyone. Out of the little of 2015 that I've seen, this one might be my favorite so far.

@Charlie Strangelove something interesting i read someone say about ex machina is that you watch it the first time through caleb's eyes, and the second through nathan's

I was wondering how the second watch would differ. I wanna see how Nathan's obsession with fitness contrasted against his destructive alcoholism can be interpreted upon a revisit. There's something poetic about how he builds himself up physically and mentally but succumbs to a knife that slides into him like he's warm butter. A lot of movies kind of fall flat upon rewatching if you already know the "twist", but this one is made so well that it doesn't hinge on any major unknown to work. I wonder how it will grow as A.I. becomes more sophisticated. I feel like this could be increasingly more important as we approach the singularity. If that happens.

She's decent, there's a good, observant story buried in there somewhere. Directed by Apatow, though, it's smug and sloppy.

Also, Method Man puts on an accent.
