I raised It Follows to 84/100 - Great. It's def a film that lingers... prob tons of rewatch potential too, which is uncommon for a horror flick.

Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) (Dir. Coen Brothers)

The first time I saw this movie I didn't quite understand the ending. I still stand by some initial thoughts, first and foremost that it suggests a kind of looping purgatory that Lllewyn is caught up in. He's doomed to repeat his mistakes for all of eternity. He's heading back to the merchant marines that he ditched out on initially. His second career flopped just like his first. He got another girl pregnant. The only thing he learns by trial and error is to not let the cat out of the apartment.

The story plays out like a worst-hits-compilation of Llewyn's life with everything going to s--- from his touch like King Midas' f----- up brother. He extinguishes every flicker of hope that appears. He won't visit his son in Akron. He isn't humbled by his charity based existence. He won't accept playing second fiddle in a trio. He can't escape his fate and won't even try to half the time. He believes he is entitled to everything despite being a selfish and bitter a------. Somehow we still manage to sympathize with his plight, if only out of pity.

The Dylan appearance had me theorizing a little more this time. There are definitely shots of Llewyn cast in shadow or from behind that look like the curly headed folk legend. Parts of the film, especially the road trip, feel almost like a Dylan odyssey. I think he might be the yin to his yang. He's the otherside of folk music. I also think that Llewyn's Hang Me Oh Hang Me rendition alongside Dylan's farewell tune might suggest that he kills himself, but that's a pretty big speculation on my part,

The colors are washed out (correct use?) and pale, shot through dirt tinted glasses. Everything is dead and wilted (like a purgatory of sorts). The sound design is magical. The sound from inside the train cut to the sound just below the tracks cut to the sound of it from a few blocks away. The sound of the road from inside the car cut to the sound from a grill mounted perspective. The reverb from inside the soulless Chicago house he sings his first swan song in. Even the dialogue seems a little more musical than usual, Sorkinesque.

It reminds me why I love the Coens as well as Oscar Isaac.

watched Spy yesterday. Hilarious movie, funny all the way through. Had no expectations to what I went in to, and was happily surprised. Good to see Statham in a "non-serious" role, and great cameo by 50cent
    10/10, will watch again

Last night I watched Horrible Bosses and it was so f---ing hilarious.
Before that, I watched Spy on the weekend and Jurassic World last Wednesday. Tonight I'm watching HB2 and next week I'm gonna watch Southpaw.

I haven't seen either since they came out. The visual effects of the first one have aged pretty badly, but other than that it's a pretty strong superhero movie. The sequel was great too. I'm trying to catch up on the entire series.

Ant Man, it was great! Thought it was going to be more funny due to Rudd's dry humour. It was funny and enjoyable for sure. I would still give Guardians of the Galaxy the nod as the funniest Marvel movie though. Definitely recommend it.

A consistently humourous tone carries this infamous dry-comedy-rock mockumentary. Satirical, witty, nuanced humour.

A mostly banal cross between Truffaut and Fellini which pales deeply in comparison to both. Often well shot and tender.

Conveys the pains of consequences of alienation and rejection through a formal trick which necessarily alienates. Unnerving.

Locke. Never would I have guessed that a 90 minute movie strictly taking place in a car would be this good. Tom Hardy definitely had a huge part in how good it was, but the script was also very strong. Hardy is quickly becoming my favourite actor.

Just watched Entourage... it was like a long episode but wasn't very memorable at all. Couple highlights from an otherwise dull experience.

Watched Ex Machina the other day... that was sick. Definitely left me with something to think about.
