This film was really good, Jon Favreau was great all around and it had a big name cast playing small parts. Highly recommended!

      It’s Such a Beautiful Day 2012
      ★★★★★ Watched 27 Jan, 2016

Such candid observation and comprehensive inquiry into the bittersweet truths of existence never so potently realized as in this most sophisticated of simple elegies. An animated spiritual equal to the likes of Tarkovsky's Mirror, Malick's Tree of Life, and Sokurov's Elegy of a Voyage.

      96/100 - Masterful.

An astounding experiment in light/dark contrast, visual aphorism, poetic conveyance of intangibles via physical abstraction, and silence.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens 2015

Just as good on rewatch. This time in 3D, which made little difference, though specks of snow and fire were pretty spectacular.

[REVIEW] 79/100 - Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens (Abrams, 2015)

Its strongest ‘force’ is that it retains the heart of the original Star Wars trilogy by presenting friendships and camaraderie in the face of evil... perhaps this is what Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens is to its predecessors: a fanboy with the excitement, drive, and intention to rise up to the same level and beyond. And, for the most part, it does an admirable job.

Gives up credulity about halfway, but even its fabrications are funny, interesting, and (for me) relatable.

    Just got finished watching:
It's a newish indie thriller/horror flick. It's about a group of friends that go out hiking, & one of the friends step on & get stuck on an old landmine....that's all i'm gonna say, other things unwrap & unfold that are QUITE major (to say the least) but i won't go into that.

Now this isn't a simple cliche bs "oops i stepped on a bomb & now we're gonna have to figure out a way to get outta this mess by the end of the movie!" movie, no no no...there's more to it than that, this s--- has LAYERS, the movie is not predictable. Landmine Goes Click is different from the usual bunch of low budget indie netflix/hulu-tier thriller flicks...it blows all that predictable, cliche crap out of the water.

It's a tense, dark, uncomfortable movie, with stunning acting on the casts part, and a d--- well executed plot. One of the greatest thriller movies i've ever seen, not surprised that it got several awards.

10/10, flawless. I FIERCELY RECOMMEND YALL WATCH THIS s---.

Dope: I was aware of this movie from the time that it was released. Never really had any intention to watch it but it was recently added to Netflix so I took a shot. Initially, I thought it would be some corny conception of 90's Hip Hop from today's youth. It sort of is but at the same time, it also pokes fun at that. These 90's obsessed kids are the social outcasts at their school and in life in general. There's one scene in particular where the main character is naming classic 80's albums as 90's albums and he gets corrected. These kids are trying to avoid the problems of living in inner city neighborhoods until one day, by chance, one of the dope pushers reaches out to them. What ensues next is an absurd and funny drug tale involving large amounts of coke, drugged out rich girl's pissing in public, bitcoin, N-word passes for White people all over a classic 90's Hip Hop soundtrack. Some newcomers are part of the cast as well as some familiar faces (Blake Anderson, Zoe Kravitz, A$AP Rocky, Tyga, Tony Revolori). The fact that Tyga gets shot in this film grants it at least a 7/10. Overall, I give the film an 8/10. It was much more entertaining than I expected it to be.

[REVIEW] 63/100 - THE WITCH (Robert Eggers, 2016)

The most problematic aspect of Eggers’ The Witch (2016) is that it wants to be too many things: a chamber drama, a horror, a socio-historical document, a parable of religious-mystic fervor… While the film’s tone and visual appeal is rather artfully done with seemingly minimalist intentions, it wears quite onerously on the viewer, whose mixed reactions of drama, horror, and psychology are placed in a convivial jug which supports less than what it promises.

    63/100 - Decent

Larry Clark is clearly a sado-masochist using movie-making as an excuse for carrying out his perverted fantasies. In spite of this, the film almost has that so bad its good/vulgar cinema attraction of B-film schlock.. but its still awful.

97/100 - Ultimately the film is rather simple: two theater groups perform Aeschylus, some were once members of a semi-secret group of intellectual idealists, and a seemingly crazy boy with bizarre ideas and actions forces them to reconnect. This occurs over 13 protracted hours, wherein the wait, the confusion, and the will to solve the puzzle becomes part of one’s overwhelming experience of what may only be called a masterfully crafted cinematic experiment.
