Watching the original matrix, forgot how awesome some of these scenes were. From what I remember I didn't care for the sequels really but the original was real good.

Watching the last house on the left 2009 remake now, it's pretty intense so far...

Now, i love Jim Jarmusch movies, i like this guys true to life, at times mundane moviemaking style. His films generally interest me, this one most f---ing certainly doesn't though. This movie, about a guy wandering through new york, philosophizing on life, meeting new people, is the most radically jarmuschy movie i've seen. It takes the simple, mundane, real life style to an absolute extreme, & i do not like the result. This film is SO slow-paced & in f---ing credibly unentertaining & unengaging. So brutally hard to sit through. One of the most boring films i've ever seen in my life.

    Narc (2002) ★★★★✩
    [IMG]

Maybe one too many plot twists and flashbacks, but it's the best episode of Law & Order ever made. A masculine character study with a vulnerable heart. Carnahan doesn't want you to praise the violence that defines the dingy underground of narcotics work, he wants you to feel it's weight. When a character is desensitized by it, as most audiences are, we notice that. While holding the momentum of an investigation, there is still time and patience for a silent marital fight. The final reveal isn't just stage magic, but a plunge back into consequences and regret.

    The Seventh Continent (1989) ★★★★★
    [IMG]

Michael Haneke employs a two act structure, emphasizing the routine of the picturesque nuclear family before dissolving it. The opening 15 minutes of the picture contain few words and even fewer faces, instead focusing on action and object. Having read many reviews before writing my own, I find the bourgeois, consumerism, and the "vacuity of modern life" to be a little out of my depth, but essential thematic elements of the film.

One aspect that I found my most writers did not touch on, however, is exploration of the partition between the mind and the world at large. A character describes an alternate reality where heads are replaced with screens so that you can tell what the people around you are thinking. That premise is the prime mover of the entire film. From the opening shot in the car wash, to the closing shot of white noise, our characters are drowned out by the world around them. "There is nothing holding us here."

As Fernando Croce of Slant Magazine put it, Haneke is Zeus-on-depressants and this picture is no less technically perfect than any of his other creations. If you find it ideologically, spiritually, or ethically repellent, that's not by accident.

Herein, I will outline the major differences between the novel Room by Emma Donoghue, and the film Room, adapted for the screen by Lenny Abrahamson. To be sure, I believe the film is a fine example of the adapted screenplay, and I think over the alternatives it should have won Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2016 Oscars. Evil Dead (2013) ★★★★✩
    http://basementrejects.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/evil-dead-tree-r----scene.jpg

Anybody ragging on this beautiful bloodbath for its mediocre acting is watching the original through rose-tinted glasses. If you told me Raimi shot a porno and cut out the good stuff, I'd believe you. Sure, this doesn't have the hokey charm of a shoe string budget, but it's far more visually interesting. The script paints in broad strokes so the lack of characterization seems to be what people rag on, but it's the perfect vehicle for chaos and honestly has a higher caliber premise than the original. Calling it studio tripe is pure hypocrisy when the same people would probably cream their jeans for something like À l'intérieur (2007) because of it's transgressive French extremism. Fede Alvarez did a great job with this soft reboot of a cult classic. I have high hopes for both him and where ever this rebirthed franchise goes next.

A triptych of abstract queer cinema with narratives connected through themes of alienation, disgrace, and shame. Each allegory calls towards the experience of being queer; Haynes likens the alienation of a young boy, the restraint of a victimized male, and the monstrosity of a self-denying doctor to comment on the general malaise of a judgemental society and its abuse of those deemed 'different'.

La Haine is clearly an important precursor to films like American History X and French Blood (and probably many others).

The stark black and white works really well to give the film that gritty feel of urban decay and desolation, and the cinematography is pretty d--- impressive with all the circling tracking shots to show both the front and… more

    Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
I always enjoy Tom Cruise movies especially the mission impossible series so I was excited when I finally got around to watching the 5th installment this week. After watching the movie twice. I can say it is without a doubt my personal favorite MI film. Rogue Nation seeming took all the good things of the previous Ethan Hunt stories, found the right balance and discarded the negatives that made previous MI movies disappointing. I definitely recommend seeing it.
    8/10.
Favorite part: Director Hunley and Brandt's meeting with the Prime Minister. The underwater scene was also a favorite of mine, very intense.

    Pulp Fiction
Watched this movie 3 times so far this week (as I'm making a project inspired by and themed around it). Nothing I can really say, this movie is classic material. One of the greatest films of all time. If you haven't seen it drop what you're doing right now, make a Netflix account and watch it. This is Tarantino at his best. This is Jackson at his best. This is Trivolta at his best. Add roles from Willis and Thurman making Pulp Fiction a fantastic, revolutionary work of art. One of my all time favorites.
    10/10
    Favorite part: The whole movie.

Tbh i can't really think of any recent horror movies that are great. I watched "The Witch" yesterday, don't bother with it, it was terrible. The only good part was the last ten minutes.

The boy was just ok so i would only recommend that if you have nothing better to do.

A movie that I would recommend would be "The Trust" Nic Cage and Elijah Wood star in it. It isn't a horror but it's a good robbery/crime flick.

"Half of these Cate Blanchett movies — they’re all just like these arty things. I’m not saying they’re bad movies, but I don’t think most of them have a shelf life." - Quentin Tarantino

What an average picture for the critics to spill so much ejaculate over. An absolutely banal narrative and execution compensated for with shallow visual talent and a period setting. Even the performances, which received so much praise, barely left an impression on me. Watch The Duke of Burgundy (2014) instead.
