The Witch (2015) ★★★★✩

The innocence of children. The expectations of masculinity. The guilt of the sinner. There are many ways to run with this one, but female sexuality does seem to be at the core of it all. The crow picking at the breast. The female goat leaking blood from its udder as a cursed menstruation. An apple from paradise. A shrewd mother fears her daughter's burgeoning figure will corrupt her family.

Robert Eggers' faithfulness to the historical account makes these issues extend beyond a specific family in the woods, turning them into an organic commentary of the times. The period setting is meticulously constructed. Every frame is postcard worthy. The Witch is a creepily patient slow burn and has deservedly claimed its place as the current indie-horror darling.

i actually saw this because i thought it was the other comedy film about a granddad, the one that's like jackass and dirty sanchez, but after i realised this movie didn't s--- i was vaguely less disappointed. it's just a stupid movie that means nothing. dumb comedy. it's funny.

k--- bill vol 1, 4/10
assassins try to k--- girl and her family, girl goes in a coma and rest of family dies. girl wakes up and is all like "I must the revenges" and kills some people. some gore and stuff awful movie overrated don't watch it.

all the movies i've seen in the past week

black rat, 8/10
this film's like a mix of scream and battle royale (and is directed by the son of battle royale's director). it's about six people in high school who get a text from their dead friend's phone telling them to come to high school at night. takes an ordinary slasher movie and adds in mystery and drama without it seeming forced or cheesy and doesn't take away from the gore and horror parts

psycho: suicide dolls, 6/10
super pretentious movie where 3 girls k--- themselves and dolls fight each other in the end. that's it. back of the dvd cover says "Were they the victims of "Suicide Dolls", or were they themselves the dolls?" which means nothing at all since what i just said is actually all that happens.

tumbling doll of flesh, 0/10
not even going to link the cover, worst movie ever made.

mermaid in a manhole, 3/10
this film was made solely to make you feel ill, and it doesn't really work. painter goes to sewer every day for years to paint things he finds, and finds a mermaid he hadn't seen for years that was the reason he kept coming to the sewer in the first place. mermaid is infected by horrible disease. with the ending the film actually might be deeper than it seems, but nobody cares cause you're watching it for shock value.

street trash, 7/10
classic b-movie about hobos drinking beer that makes them explode. has a large bit in the middle of the movie where there is nothing related to anything that happened in the first 20 minutes. got back to the exploding people come back soon enough though.

the toxic avenger, 8/10
another classic b-movie. bullied nerd falls into barrel of toxic waste and turns into superhuman mutant that brutally murders criminals. a lot of gore and extremely cheesy on purpose.

august underground, 7/10
two immature murderers go around doing murderer things. no plot, just videocam footage of murder. it's a fake snuff film. the guy who made it is a teacher at tom savini's special effects academy, so it looks really real.

red room 2, 8/10
same plot as first red room, 4 people enter a card game to win millions of yen. the game is a card game where everybody draws a card. 3 of the cards are numbered from 1 to 3, the last card has a crown on it. the person who draws the crown chooses 2 other numbers and says what the people with those cards have to do. aim of the game is to make the other people quit. this movie contains the most ridiculous death scene i've ever seen. more ridiculous than anything in riki-oh or toxic avenger. just as good as the first red room. better in the sense that there's no sex scenes. kind of.

mai-chan's daily life, 5/10
i couldn't find a small picture of the cover for this because i'm in college and all the sites i tried to view image from were blocked for p*rn. it's about a maid called mai who can't die. she gets punished for doing something wrong to her master (i think it was spilling something over him by accident, don't remember) by having her finger chopped off, and when she wakes up it grows back. turns out the master is a super sadist and finds it hot when girls get hurt badly, so mai gets tortured every day and is fine when she wakes up. honestly i only downloaded this cause it was too obscure to have a rating on imdb, but whatever.

tokyo gore police, 7/10
ridiculous overgoryness that stretches out to 2 and a half hour. set in a future where the police in tokyo has been privatised and controls the law. all criminals get executed, even for the smallest crimes. police grow more and more corrupt while trying to fight people who had their genetics changed to turn into superhuman criminals. even if it gets boring since it's 2 and a half hours, the pure stupidity of the ending is enough to make up for it.

ichi the killer, 9/10
the boss of a g--- goes missing, g--- tries to find him, finds out about an assassin called ichi. ichi is a mentally unstable crybaby who was bullied as a kid and still is bullied as an adult, the difference being people who bully him as an adult usually end up without a head. filled with stylised gore and violence. what k--- bill tried to be but failed at being. speaking of which

i've got a movie called "bloody muscle builder to h---" which is obscure enough to not have an imdb page. supposed to be like a japanese evil dead, looks like it was made in the 80s but i saw a few minutes of it and they mention photoshop so it can't be that old.

Just watched Room for the first time and it was incredible. Brie Larson was great as I expected after seeing her in 'Short Term 12' and the actor who played Jack was great as well. I really can't think of anything that was wrong with the film. It was full of different emotions and shot beautifully. It might be one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Capote 8/10

Stunning performance from Hoffman. I truly regret not having watched his movies earlier when he was still alive. He is my the most slept on actor. No doubt about that. His ability to act differently in every movie he stars in is incredible. The movie itself was also great, but I feel like it could have been a little longer, so as to it could develop the plot more extensively, especially the parts about the execution. I had a feeling it was a little bit rushed.

The Burning (1981) ★★★✩✩

Harvey Weinstein's first producer credit and one of his only writing credits. Tom Savini on the effects work. Prototypical camp slasher meets teen sex comedy. The first k--- is straight out of Michael Powell's Peeping Tom (1960) which kicks off a bunch of twisted sexual scenarios. It's not new for 80s slashers to be trashy, but I find this one especially gross. The highlights lie in Rick Wakeman's overbearing score, the wilderness survival aspect that surfaces halfway through, and the absurdly mean raft massacre. The final showdown is actually rather gripping and takes place in a wonderful location. Make no mistake, this is garbage, but uniquely shameless and cold garbage. Were the villain more memorable, this could've been a successful franchise.

P.S. The Blu Ray transfer is gorgeous.

Liar Liar

this is one of my favorite jim carrey movies. pretty basic plot about a lawyer who has a shaky relationship with his son. however, the movie is carried by an awesome performance by carrey. he's at his best and keeps the laughs coming throughout the entirety of the film. it's a well-executed, fun, feel-good movie that has a lot of replay-value IMO

actually no..your opinion is yours...and I respect it..but in all honesty.. I don't need to see those other films to know they are s---, because k--- Bill is one of the best films of the 2000s. Regardless of what you think.. and that's a FACT.

I have seen 3 of those films though.. Ichi the killer (which is the only good one of that bunch) Tokyo Gore Police which is fair & Toxic Avenger ( I still own the VHS) but to give all those films a 7/8 out of 10 and give k--- bill a 4?... makes me question your taste. I'm not saying you're wrong..because it's your opinion after all, just like when I said "What the s---" I expressed my opinion that k--- bill is better than all of those, which it is..lol no harm done man..you like what you like.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

just watched the last movie in the dollars trilogy. this movie is very long, but i don't think it drags. while i can't speak for others, i think it probably held the audience's attention. pretty good performance by clint eastwood and the others and there's just enough action to keep things exciting but also not too much that they over-do it. good film
