the leader was robert downey jr by far for them , he will leave after infinity war i think , nobody on dc has his charisma even tho affleck recently became one of my favorites after argo , the town and gone girl

imo civil war was a lot better than those 2 dc movies this year

How many movies is the "Avengers Story" in now?
2 Thor movies... 2 Hulk movies... 3 Iron Man movies... Guardians of the Galaxy... 2 Spiderman movies... Ant Man... 3 actual Avenger movies... They are so f---ing established with what they are doing already.

They have a rhythm and it works. Of course they are blowing DC out the water.

How many movies are "Justice League Story"?

2 Superman movies and Suicide Squad..... I mean wtf... Give them time lol

The only reason DC will never measure up to Marvel movies is because of the fact that they haven't taken the time to establish each character with their own movie yet... they are going too fast busy trying to play catch up with Marvel and are dumping it too thick

Still think Superman v Batman was better than Civil War
Missing Thor and Hulk does some damage

There's a reason movies with 5+ well known heroes together does well

just 1 hulk movie i think for this part and still no spiderman movie for this one as they introduced a new one but not one of them was as bad as those 2 dc movies from this year

dc is trying too much to do what marvel does , marvel does civil war dc does bvs , suicide squad is quite similar as an idea with guardians of the galaxy

why didnt they started with new standalone movies for each hero and not throw themselve straight into the big titles like bvs

That's what I'm saying... The introductions for each Suicide Squad member was mediocre and dropping Wonder Woman into Superman V Batman out of nowhere when her movie isn't even out yet is just odd.. It's hard to feel drawn in to these characters the same way we are to Marvels .. they need more screen time

I can totally see Deadshot and Harley Quinn getting their own movies after their performance in SS but I highly doubt it at this point... probably just get thrown into another clusterfuck movie

The Nice Guys (2016) (Dir. Shane Black) ★★★☆☆
    [IMG]

Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans. Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. Samuel L. Jackson and Gena Davis.... Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. By this point, Shane Black has the buddy cop dynamic down to a science. While Iron Man 3 (2013) had a mixed reception, that had more to do with the property than what he managed to do with it. Perhaps moviegoers weren't familiar with his affinity for subverting genre tropes or his trust in the audience to sift through a messy story. We know what to expect from this latest effort.

The Nice Guys (2016) is Black's first period piece which follows a true to life auto scandal in 1970s. It has shades of Polanski's Chinatown (1974) in the environmental conspiracy, but more so of Altman's stoner noir The Long Goodbye (1973) borrowed from even more recently by Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice (2014). Strangely enough, it follows the same scandal that Nic Pizzolatto hinted at the second season of his True Detective series centering around. All of those also take place in coastal California.

Crowe, muscle for hire, and Gosling, a sleazy private investigator, take the lead displaying excellent chemistry. Gosling reveals a sort of knack for physical humor we haven't seen previously. Both characters are better men than their actions would indicate that find redemption throughout the course of the film. Angourie Rice, who plays Gosling's overly mature daughter in the picture, shows promise in a role that Elle Fanning recently outgrew. Unfortunately, characters outside of these three are mostly forgettable. Kim Bassinger and her assortment henchmen feel like outlines of characters. Perhaps this is another Shane Black trait as I'm having trouble recalling the antagonists from several of his films. Still, the three offer enough to connect with and provide an emotional hook that might or might not draw your investment.

While I can't say every joke landed, specifically Gosling's hyperbolic shortness of breath at the site of a corpse that drags on for a second or three too long, but several moments are some of the funniest I have seen on screen in a long time. Black does what a lot of modern comedy writers forget to do once they attach Seth Rogan or Will Ferrell or Melissa McCarthy to their picture... he writes actual jokes for his actors to work with. Unfortunately, a couple too many wound up in the final trailer so avoid that if you can.

While there's a lot to enjoy here, perhaps the biggest letdown is the plot. I. Don't. Care. If you've seen Chinatown (1974), you know the environmental conspiracy is a backdrop for a Greek tragedy of life shattering proportions. The mother and daughter around which the conflict centers in this film pull none of those strings. If you've seen The Long Goodbye (1977), you know the wife and husband's relationship is the emotional core of the film. Gosling and his daughter can't muster any of that realism or weight. If you've seen Inherent Vice (2014), you know that Joaquin Phoenix's odyssey takes him through a marijuana scented world populated by oddball characters. Even the assassin feels little more than a sketch of a villain and the porno party they infiltrate wilts in the shadow of the one in Boogie Nights (1997).

While inter-textual criticism is weak, comparing The Nice Guys (2016) to its sister films does more to highlight its problems than create them. It's a solid comedy with solid leads, but I don't think I'd put it shoulder to shoulder with the classics. Not on my first viewing anyway.

Suicide Squad, actually thought it was great and got me real hype for the solo Batfleck movie. Hopefully Joker and Harley are the main villains

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) (Dir. Kim Jee-woon) ★★★☆☆
    [IMG]

Drawing loosely upon a Korean folktale, A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) is a definitive k-horror picture, a strong example of gorgeous filmmaking, an emotionally destructive familial drama, and a taxing psychological puzzle. In many ways, Kim Jee-woon crafts the spiritual successor to Bergman's Cries & Whispers (1972) perhaps most subtlety by paying as much attention to the chamber as the drama within it. My cultural blindness leads me to associate the rural manor with the paper thin walls of Japan, though its consciously lit wallpapers block the warm glow of the countryside to the point where night scenes feel set in an underground bunker. Not to say Jee-woon shies away from disturbing the viewer in broad daylight, an achievement many filmmakers fail to even attempt.

Jee-woon also makes sure to use horror not as a cheap excuse for shock, but as a tool for expressing trauma. For all of the supernatural imagery, one of the most disturbing scenes in the film unflinchingly depicts child abuse. Another twists the knife using an awkward conversation over dinner. Stripped completely of horror hyperbole, this picture would still stand on its own as a drama played straight.
Perhaps the weakest aspect of the film lies in its third act when the emotional core of the film is muddied by plot complexities. Instead of resolve, I experienced frustration as a story I'd been following with such ease was pulled out from under me. Eventually a bow is tied, but such an influx of details left me scrambling for a wiki summary instead of stewing in the aftermath of a tragedy. Still, I'd rather a plot twist distract from the film's substance than compensate for a lack of any.

Though unmistakably overwrought, I imagine subsequent viewings do away with my chief criticisms. Thankfully this is a film you'll probably want to watch more than once.
