May 7, 2015 Not talking about that, Kanye is a legend and I can respect his legacy but for me he was never a really good rapper. I bet that if other rappers said some of the worst lines from Kanye in their tracks they would get a lot more of s---. It's not about that he is not technical, it's about that for me he could never spit something above average.
May 7, 2015 if you think none of kanye's songs--actually, let's even limit it to the three i posted--are "above average," you have no discernible taste. it's an indefensible position.
May 7, 2015 I said that lyrically the guy is not really above average, I was not talking about the general quality of his tracks
May 7, 2015 everybody has a diffrent taste in music so imo doesnt make sense what he said but on the other hand its his opinion and u gotta respect this (ofc kanye has above average tracks imo)
May 7, 2015 this ain't kindergarten b @Young Sinatra explain to me in 20-2,000 words how all falls down is "not above average lyrically"
May 7, 2015 He won't, he'd rather speak in vague generalizations when it comes to things he doesn't know about Edit: and then play the victim when called out for it
May 7, 2015 It's a little bit hard to explain why I don't think that a classic song like All Falls Down is not above average lyrically without getting a hundred of insults but I'm going to try. Not a specific subject matter tbh, in the first verse the song seems like it was an storytelling track but later Ye switch up the focus. I don't believe the theory that the first verse is about himself neither but I'm not going to be harsh with him I don't like the "urr" thing, it's really annoying There is nothing really incredible about the concept of the track. Kanye is saying things but I don't get anything of his message. Again, I don't like these type of lines on songs like this one. "She had hair so long that it looked like weave, then she cut it all off, now she look like Eve"? Nah man His flow is decent but for me it doesn't really fit with the subject matter of the track. That's it, I don't like to talk like this about classics from Kanye but you asked me and here is my answer.
May 7, 2015 the first line is "man i promise, she so self conscious," which is the thesis of the whole song. i don't think this has confused any other listener in the 11 years since it came out. ...the song is "below average lyrically" because he affects a southern drawl for two bars? when he talks about the girl going to school in the south? very solid point there, nice job. this is vague and doesn't mean anything. the song's about self-consciousness. maybe it doesn't affect you, but it's an incisive look at the concept that ran contrary to the genre's climate at the time. what could possibly be wrong with that line? it's great, but the worst you could argue is that it's innocuous. you're grasping at straws. i'm calling bs. you're talking out of your a---. first of all, there aren't different flows for different subject matters. that doesn't exist. second, if you insist that there ARE somehow cadences you have to adopt when you're talking about different things, where and how does kanye fail? you're bad at listening to rap music.
May 7, 2015 At least he tried though I always liked that about @Young Sinatra What I HATE about him is what's about to happen next -- where he'll just act like its "all opinion" and not learn a single thing from this exchange
May 7, 2015 How is it a "reach" to say that this song is about being self aware, during a time where the genre wasn't geared towards this content? Lmao man
May 7, 2015 Really though PLEASE tell me what you think the "weave/Eve" line is about @Young Sinatra pleaseeeeeeee Inb4 rap genius
