I somewhat agree with what WPG was saying. I don't think Lil Dicky is a racist or anything but some of his stuff makes me feel some type of way (I'm black btw if that helps to justify my sentiments). Like this Lion King song I found of him. Before he rapped he said he would tell the story of the Lion King like a thug would or something along those lines. That made me feel a little uncomfortable.

His rapping voice gives me a similar feeling to that of Iggy Azalea's in that he puts on a blaccent for songs. And the whole anti-rap doing things differently thing in the OP video didn't really register with me. Every rapper in the game before him weren't tough, serious, one dimensional rappers who didn't rap about much but it seemed like that was what he was implying. Plus that whole suburban struggle thing was really offputting.

I think he's decent and funny and I'm not one of those types who preach about cultural appropriation but he just comes off as a rapper who makes music for that "eminem, logic, g eazy, lil dicky and hoodie allen are the best because they rap about more than just hoes and money" youtube audience. I have some mixed feelings about him but like Charlie said, he probably doesn't mean any harm by it at all and his self-deprecating humor cushions the blow a bit. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and check out his album he dropped today to see if it's good.

That exact part rubbed me the wrong way. While you're completely right, I think intent is 9/10ths of the law. I also think his self-branded comedy does diffuse the situation enough to forgive him. Go watch Malibu's Most Wanted and tell me it's racist propaganda. I mean, the foundation for comedy is expectations versus reality and being a white rapper is a suitable vehicle for it. I think he's harmless even when he slips into foul territory.

WPG is right. Lil Dicky is worse than Hitler. Migos social commentary is more important than Chris Hedges... Because he is white and therefore an a------.

@WPG is the typical white guilt ridden liberal who moves into a gentrified section of a urban city thinking he is actually living the urban experience. Even tho poor minorities were forced out of that section of the city so whites could move in and property values skyrocket

honestly though, as much as i make fun of other white rappers, dicky really does rub me the wrong way w/r/t race. like, when the black rappers in this video are these hulking dudes with chains on and he's like "you people don't know how to be vulnerable!" i think that kind of attitude runs through his music, and when you couple it with that obtuseness about his "struggle," it feels really, really gross to me.

He has white rapper syndrome. We go to the same meetings. It's like white guilt but cooler.
Nah, but everybody has their tastes and Paul can justify his as well as anybody.
