You seem like a good dude, but I'd just like to point out something to you. Do you ever think that marginalised people tend to laugh at themselves or that they joke about their own communities because it's a coping mechanism? It's certainly easier to do that to de-escalate situations instead of pulling someone up for their casual bigotry or whichever thing that is being weaponised against them. That s--- is energy sapping and tiring. -

2 years ago I knew so many 50 to 70 year old white guys who said they didn't really like rap music... "but that new Old Town Road is my jam!"

I mean this in a genuinely nice way because it reminds me of the Drake vs. Meek Mill beef when every rapper on twitter was commenting and taking sides and then Chief Keef was just posting videos of his remote control helicopters like nothing else was happeningOrdinary Joel, BIGFOOT, Jeans and 4 others like this. -

I was talking to some people privately about this stuff but I'm just gonna edit my convos into a single post here as well:
You don't have to explicitly call someone a "fa----" or a "tranny" for the general attitude toward the LGBTQ community here to be hateful. In fact, that's really what the the vast majority of bigotry/racism/whatever you wanna call it is—the otherism is so engrained in people that it comes out implicitly all the time. I read, write, and edit English writing and communication for a living, and this kind of thing does matter and contribute to attitudes and the way people understand things.
The thread shouldn't have had anything to do trans people in the first place because it was a joke tweet that didn't try to say anything about gender or trans issues, it was just a ridiculous photoshop—but the discourse around trans people here is so negative in general that people responded in the same way that they would if it was abut an actual trans person, saying stuff like "mental illness."
Using the slang term "fruity" is homophobic no matter how you use it. The "fingers in the booty a--- b----" Amber Rose/Kanye thing is definitely a funny instance in general, but in this context it was a response to kanye making the rap game "fruity," which was in response to a thread that became transphobic in literally the first reply.
And the thing is: it's definitely a weird picture! His entire point was likely to make people feel uncomfortable (and he did a great job). If the responses were just commenting that the picture was weird it would have been fine—but the context of the thread was that he's gross or weird for being trans.
Like I said, the concept of being transgender is definitely hard to wrap your head around and definitely feels "weird" when you don't know much about it, but at this point in my life I would never use the term "weird" to refer to anything that has to do with being trans, because the implication there is negative and unaccepting. I don't expect every single person who comes to this forum to understand trans issues because it's something that only came to the forefront of conversation/public consciousness in the past 10 years. I didn't always understand, and I'm more than willing to have these conversations with people because I remember a time when I didn't get it. It wasn't something I knew much about until my roommate came out as trans to me around 10 years ago.
This instance has nothing to do with being soft—I laugh my a--- off at quote unquote "offensive" comedy such as South Park and Dave Chappelle like most people here. But the difference is that South Park and Chappelle usually come from a POV of understanding their targets and poking fun at their intricacies and idiosyncrasies. My issue with the "jokes" here is that they don't seem to come from a place of understanding or acceptance, they seem come from a place of otherism and unwillingness to learn about the subject or even do the bare minimum to treat trans people like human beings. Like The World Health Organization removed being transgender from the list of mental illnesses (as had many places before that), so calling it a mental illness is just disagreeing with medical science lol.
Like I said man, I don't expect everyone to fully understand this stuff at this point in time, but I would hope that people are willing to learn and listen and be respectful. When the punchline is "ha ha trans people exist" or "ha ha gay people exist" it's not only hacky but not even really a joke because there isn't a punchline. It's stuff that would come from a comedian that has s--- like this for their Netflix special cover:

if we ran s--- with more positivity, we could expand s---. But we’ve always been rooted in negativity and hive mentalities.

Also being weird isnt always a bad thing either. Im just not a fan of attention seeking like this
Would he be doing this if he had a hit single in the last year. I doubt it.

"people are so terrified of trans"
Nobody is terrified of them, they are disgusted by them. It's like you see dog s--- while walking and go around it, cause it's disgusting/filthy/not human etc. It's not like you see dogshit and run away terrified. Same with trans you see one and it's like yuck and you keep about 2 metres distance cause they're f---ing disgusting.
Like the spastic at everyone's highschool in a wheelchair that drooled. You aren't scared of him but you aren't touching the c---- either
