So I haven't gotten into any new artists in what seems forever. At least a solid 7 years. Part of the reason is because what i've heard in the past years has been just terrible to my ears. Especially the rise of mumble rap.
Here are a list of artists that I used to listen to and still listen to give you an idea.
T.I.
Snoop Dogg
Lil Wayne
DMX
2 Pac
Ice Cube
Jay Z
Eminem
Chamillionaire
Kanye West
Rick Ross
Tech N9ne
Yelawolf
Outcast
Three 6 Mafia
Bone Thugs and Harmony
Dr Dre
....
Honestly the list could go on forever. I like a bit of everything. But as you can see, all of these artists have been around for a while and a lot of them don't produce their best material anymore.
I'm looking for new artists to get into. It could be the name of an artist or even a particular album.
As for what type of hiphop I like, i'm kind of an inbetweener. Not a huge fan of hardcore, underground/street rap like Rakim for example. I like artists who can make "catchy" music with substance but not too popish either. It's hard to describe but I think the list above best describes it.
No Migos, 6ix9nine, Future etc.. I'm not into any of that s---, no offence to anyone who enjoys listening to these artist.
Thanks!KPD, FTI3, Buddha and 1 other person like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I listened to both albums with an open mind. The fact that I didn't enjoy 2 Chainz album has nothing to do with what I thought of him prior to that.
I actually didn't think anything of him personally. Just didn't like a handful of songs that had heard from him so I had no real interest in diving deeper into his music.
As for Denzel's Curry, it was literally impossible for me to have any preconceived ideas since I have never really heard of him before.
I always go into an album with an open mind. But If I don't like the way a song sounds, after 1 or 2 listens, then it's usually not for me.
The lyrics don't always have to be deeply meaningful for me to enjoy a song. But the beat or how the track sounds in general does.Sav Stanfield, Ordinary Joel and DKC like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Finally didn't end up enjoying the rest of the album as much. Really liked "Zuu" and "Wish". The last track is interesting also but left out the rest.
It's still better than nothing. I get to add some new songs to my library lol.
There's still a lot of artists and albums to check out that in this thread.
@Sav Stanfield you must listen to a lot of music, dude. A lot of those artists i've never heard from. You know you're s---.Sav Stanfield, Ordinary Joel and Buddha like this. -

Currently downloading 2 Chainz album to see how it sounds as well as Denzel Curry's ZUU as suggested by @Sav Stanfield. Actually just noticed that I had 1 song from Denzel Curry in my music library which is Cash Maniac. Really good song.
Thanks again and keep posting if anyone knows albums or artists that have not been mentionned yet. There are already a couple of guys that have posted in this thread that seem to be sharing a similar feeling about a lot of of the newer hiphop and are stuck listening to the same ole music. I'm sure this will help a few.Ordinary Joel, Buddha and Sav Stanfield like this. -

I have the same problem. Most of these new rappers, if you can call them that, are trash. I like most s--- that came out between 1999-2005.SLAYAR, Wreckless and Juney Dark like this. - May 2, 2025
