listening to Born Like This for the first time in ages... forgot how incredible this album is and even so, its only like fourth or fifth best in his discography.

Born Like This was SO underrated. Project is solid af. I remember listening to it front to back during a bus trip in the night ~5 years ago... what a journey

NehruvianDoom is the only DOOM project I've never really loved I think. will re-listen to it later today

Also I'm digging through what he was doing most recently and this is probably one of his last verses ? hadn't heard it before. not close to prime DOOM obviously on first listens but hearing him spit verses I haven't heard is enough for me to feel all emotional today

This made me sad af last night.

Doom gives me a lot of escapism in his music and, in a hipster sort of way, I was glad that he was niche and considered an acquired taste for a long time because I wanted his music to be genuinely appreciated and not filled with dickriders.

Doom's a highly skilled rapper and his discography is really great. I was listening to his worst album, Venomous Villain, the other day, and really enjoyed it.

    RIP

I just keep thinking like—this dude was one of a kind and there will never be anyone like him again. I know you could say that about a lot of people, but with DOOM I truly believe the way he thought and created was wholly unique and cannot ever be replicated.

Had to take a few days off the internet after this news. I was rocked by it. I loved DOOM so much. He was like my older brother. Legend.
    RIP GOAT.

Anybody else worried about how his posthumous releases will be handled?

I'm no expert on how this stuff works but over the years he was on so many different labels and worked with different artists on projects that didnt actually release.
So there probably is a huge backlog of DOOM material.
Everybody gonna try to get a piece of the cake now.

    RIP DOOM

if folks here haven't recognized the 'captain awesome/papa' persona as one yearslong homage to Doom, then idk what to tell you. RIP.

i'm dating myself here, but about 15 years ago, i co-hosted my college's weekly rap show on the radio, by default one of boston's premiere rap showcases on regional broadcast (s/o @DoCE ). i mostly played Doom, since madvillainy was the soundtrack to all the allston hipster parties - in addition to def jux (alot of def jux... aesop/lif), tha carter era wayne and yes, eminem/dre.

He's always been reclusive and mysterious and he's not even allowed in the USA so there's no hollywood/NY paparazzi to follow him (I mean I'm sure there are in the UK too)...but he died during an extremely turbulent time right before the US election so I'm sure it wasn't really on anyone's radar. Not like he's a celebrity that's in the news 24/7 + the majority of people wouldn't even recognize a maskless DOOM in public if he sat next to them on the subway.

Still, it's practically unheard of these days for someone this famous to die without us hearing about it for two months. Who knows how long it could have been if they didn't announce it.
