Oct 16, 2022 I watched 78 18 and kills then went to the theater to see ends all in 5 or 6 hours yesterday. Great day because I felt like I was 16 again with zero responsibilities. I really don’t know what to make of ends. I was kinda speechless after I saw it. This definitely shouldn’t have been ends. The previews were so misleading. I don’t know what they were thinking here. All of that said, it wasn’t horrible. If this was a stand alone movie somehow it would be pretty d--- good. It just threw a lot of people off.
Oct 16, 2022 Had fun watching the Fear Street trilogy, that was a rare win for Netflix imo Didn't really like how they revealed the killers in Scream 5, and one of the killers death was pretty similar to the death in another movie by Dicaprio and Shirt wearing Brad Pitt.
Oct 16, 2022 Pretty sure, knowing Ends now, its gonna be fun watching all of it! And yeah exactly. I was speechless... If it was the first of a new trilogy, like introducing new stories, fine. But this was not a proper end, the movie. Especially the way it was advertised lol Like I said I think I'm gonna appreciate it in time. Gonna watch the other Halloweens (4, 3) the day before Halloween probably
Oct 16, 2022 Fear street 3 Great conclusion. Not a huge fan of movies set in the middle ages but that part was short and well made. Nice how they explained the origins of the curse. 2nd half also a nice way to conclude the 1994 story. This movie itself I'd give a 7/10. The trilogy gets a solid 7.5 from me. THIS IS HOW YOU DO A TRILOGY ! Cheap Thrills More a thriller than a horror but its really creepy to see what people will do for some money. Reminds me a lot of Would You Rather, but with 2 people being played by a rich couple. Solid movie. 6.5/10 Halloween 6 Jamie was like... 9 when she disappeared. This is what, 6 years later? So she was r---d as a 14 year old girl and being held captive the whole time. Wtf. The whole thorn, cult bs is the worst thing ever happened in this franchise next to Ressurection. Michael is just used as a puppet by some rich old disgusting people. Keep. It's a shame really, because the other story, Haddonfield finally celebrating Halloween again, could have been a nice touch. The Strode family, Tommy Doyle, Loomis.. there was potential here. I also seen the producers cut.. there its even implied that Michael rapes Jamie, and in the end Loomis gets the Thorn sign from Wynn. Even weirder. Conclusion; there is a decent movie in here somewhere, but surrounded by a lot of weirdo, gross and stupid s---. Below average 4.5/10
Oct 16, 2022 Saw Halloween Ends, aside from obvious problems in the script and a necessity to have suspension of disbelief I actually kinda really enjoyed it? Like I understand why people hate it but I appreciate such an wild ambitious swing for a franchise like this especially considering that they wanted it to be a definitive end, but this is also coming from somebody that enjoyed The Last Jedi so I obviously like the idea of subversion of expectations and am willing to overlook some problems if I f--- with an idea.
Oct 17, 2022 You're welcome! Haha nah but for real, I think after seeing all our responses you did went in with different expectations. The whole movie I was like, waiting for the story to move to the main character... and I got frustrated that didn't happen, so I was already done with it lol. But a day after the movie, when that faded away I was like okay I did enjoy some parts. They made some very poor choices, especially when it comes to Michael (how he changed, without any explanation) but I think I might like it more on 2nd watch and without those expectations tbh. I agree that the idea is good btw, but not to end this trilogy; would have been a good start to a new one maybe.
Oct 17, 2022 Not gonna include Ends yet, since I'm gonna have a non-expectations watch again first, gonna post the full list including ends with thoughts on Halloween! And also with ratings so its easier to explain the rankings lol. But I guess Halloween Halloween 2018 Halloween 4 (Halloween 3) Halloween Kills Halloween H20 / Halloween 2 Halloween 1 (Zombie) Halloween 5 Halloween 6 Halloween Ressurection Halloween 2 (Zombie)
Oct 17, 2022 Tbf I read a while back that Corey would basically be the new main character so that on top of the social media reactions definitely shaped my expectations to not realizing why people hate this one specifically when there's way more boring entries in the franchise. I think it's very obvious that Corey wasn't going to exist before they had to do a time skip due to covid but I think the idea of his character and how they tackled the same theme as Kills did from a different angle is really f---ing interesting I just wish they had that idea to flesh him out more in an earlier movie so the relationship and buildup to his character didn't feel so rushed. As for Michael changing I assume you mean him being noticably weaker? I just took that as a dude who got his a--- beat in the last movie (even if he won) on top of living in the sewer for 4 years, although him losing a certain altercation in the sewer still makes no sense. Also people are too busy dunking on the movie to say something that I think should he acknowledged, I think these past few movies especially this one are very well shot. David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are very talented and they've made great s--- especially with their TV series' but I think their ambition of a greater theme came in the way of some logic and that's my biggest issue. Apologies for the essay!
Oct 17, 2022 Nah I'm actually glad .. most people talk about this movie in like one sentence I love to discuss this! Gonna respond later!! First one, agree. 2nd is the worst along w Ressurection imo
Oct 17, 2022 @jankland Yeah I haven't seen it. I also didn't read many spoilers at all and I don't use social media. I did watch the trailer and saw official advertising.. and all of that made us believe it truly was a Michael and Laurie movie. Alyson was barely in the trailer and Cory just a few seconds. So it definitely was misleading imo. I am really curious what the original idea was tbh. Because your right, I can't believe they were like 'hey lets make a michael myers movie and only have him appear at the very end'. And yes, that's why I said this would have been a good reboot... getting to know Cory, make people care for him. Now everyone, including me, was like f--- that guy where is Michael? This was just not a good movie to end the franchise despite its strong points. Also agree, the way they again included the town of Haddonfield. Kinda weird they made them all blame Laurie but okay. However, it was a shame they added Hawkins and Lindsey to the cast... and not have them play any significant role at all. That still doesn't make sense though. He got stabbed by Laurie, shot by Loomis... still got up and walked away. Got half burned in Laurie's house... got out, killed like 15 firemen and the rest after it no problem. Then got stabbed with a pitchfork by Karen, beat up, stabbed by the townpeople... he got up, slaughtered them all and later killed Karen. Sorry man but it makes zero sense that he loses a fight from a 21 year old nerd and a 60 year old woman. 'He's just a man that can die'.. nah.. the previous movies proved that isn't the case, he does not die like a normal man. For the record, I wasn't really happy with Michael going supernatural in Kills at the end, and I like that he eventually just dies normally.. but this was too easy and it totally ruined his reputation imo. He was Cory's weak little sidekick. Ugh lol. At least in the end he got to k--- him but still. Oh I 100% with that. I love how they made all 3 of the movies. And, again, John Carpenter made an amazing score / soundtracks. Also, love the little nod to Halloween 3. And, did you see Nick Castle's (the OG MM) cameo? I think I definitely gonna like the movie more on 2nd watch next week, and there is good stuff. But it feels like they completely sidelined Michael (in many ways) and forced Cory and Alyson love story on us. But yeah I liked the opening, the opening credits theme, Laurie's recap at the beginning (including the OG Laurie's theme music), the Halloween night parts , the way they included the town etc etc But, as I probably said many times before, they let down the OG Halloween fans. The fans that were interested in MM and Laurie, and Lindsey, and Loomis.... not some random kid. Its far from the worst of the franchise imo, but since this was advertised as the grand finale, I can understand that people are mad and disappointed.
Oct 17, 2022 Yeah I definitely understand people's frustration with the direction of the movie, it's another case of a project being extremely mismarketed. As for Michael surviving a lot I agree that's there's a few hoops of logic you gotta jump through but it worked for me well enough, also I think they tried to have their cake and eat it too with the supernatural idea cause it's vague enough to where you could take it at face value or take it as an extended metaphor more caring about an idea rather than the characters which is a usually not good and a very risky choice. I think a person becoming what they're accused of being due to feeling powerless after a bunch of emotional and physical trauma in the case of Corey is a cool concept for a horror movie, but I think the opening having the Halloween 3 font is fitting cause it's very obviously a thing that's not interested in the simple but effective nature of the series with Michael and would be better off as a story separated from the IP entirely. Also yeah the Nick Castle cameo was cool! I've seen some people call these movies cash grabs but they were very clearly made by people with a deep reverence for the franchise! The soundtracks have also been godlike, John Carpenter is a goat and he should be given the right to make the Dead Space movie that he wants!
Oct 17, 2022 I mean, sure they are cashgrabs. But that doesn't have to mean they didn't care... they brought back Laurie, John Carpenter for the music, they even sort of revived Loomis, and like a 100 of easter eggs and nods ... to the whole franchise even the ones that are ignored. And even if you think this last one kinda sucks for the reasons I stated... 2018 and Kills were like 100% for the fans with all the shoutouts, characters they brought back even sherif bracket ffs lol. Nah.. I'm very glad they made these 3 despite the flaws. I still remember how excited I was in 2018 to watch the sequel and how much I loved it. Same w Kills btw
