Jul 5, 2024 What movies did BH release this year? I don't really check for that tbh. I remember they did the Halloween trilogy and Exorcist Believe
Jul 5, 2024 That’s a tough one tbh, I can’t even be fully sure of my top 10 slashers of all time and that’s my fav sub genre! I’ll just do what I have for slashers just because that’s what I’m 90% confident in. It’s hard ranking a subgenre I grew up loving! 1. Scream (1996) 2. Halloween (1976) 3. A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) 4. Child’s Play 2 5. A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 6. American Psycho 7. Child’s Play (1988) 8. Scream (2022) 9. Friday the 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter 10. Halloween (2018) You can really tell I have a soft spot for the big slasher franchises, but as I’ve grown up I’ve come to not really like the s-----y entries, whereas when I was younger I didn’t really think about it. If anybody has any slasher recs, I’d love to hear them! I wanna see some movies that aren’t from the “big guys” if that makes sense
Jul 5, 2024 So far that I can think of, Night Swim and Imaginary, which also happen to be at the bottom of my 2024 list period, not just horror. They’ve really been in bad form this year so far
Jul 5, 2024 Hahahahah, Freddy and Chucky were always my favorite growing up (ANOES1 was my first horror movie ever at the age of 6), so of course they are up there! Oddly enough I hadn’t seen any of the Scream movies until the week leading up to Scream ‘22, I watched one every day leading up to opening day, I just fell in love with the OG!
Jul 5, 2024 The first 'major' horror movie (slasher) I remember falling in love with is Freddy vs Jason. For that it also holds a special place. From there I started checking out the genre. Very happy that both Scream and Halloween still had gr8 entries decades later. Same with Childsplay btw. Still waiting for a good new elmst movie but where Myers and Jason are silent and anyone (to an extent) can play them. But we need Brad Dourif and Robert Eglund for their roles.
Jul 5, 2024 There’s rumors of an Elm Street movie next year produced by Blumhouse and Chucky should be getting a new movie soon too. I feel like Scream and Child’s Play are the only consistently good franchises, they both only have one bad movie each (Seed of Chucky, Scream 3 isn’t bad just mediocre compared to the others). The chucky show is a lot of fun, but season 2 was too silly for me at points. I’ve been surprised at how much they’ve been able to push the boundaries of TV in terms of swearing and gore
Jul 5, 2024 Agree. Scream didn't have a bad movie and they kept reinventing themselves. Haven't seen the Childs Play show but like all the movies (even Seed lol). Glad they returned to more horror though. Elmstreet, Friday 13th and Halloween had some meh ones in between. Looking forward to Elmstreet but like I said without RE probably not gonna like it that much. The remake was kinda bad imo. Halloween 2018, Kills and Ends thoughts on those?
Jul 5, 2024 Love Love LOVE Halloween 2018, Kills is a fun time if you’re just looking for bloody Michael Myers fun, and Ends…I’m still back and forth on. Love the new ideas, but it could’ve been executed better, as in Corey being set up throughout ‘18 and Kills instead of just appearing. Like imagine if he was a character in ‘18 and Kills and then the opening for Ends was a post credits tease on Kills. It’s a bit MCU-like with the whole post credits thing, but it’s still set up. Some days I appreciate Ends and some days it confuses me. Easily the horror movie I’m most back and forth on
Jul 5, 2024 Are you an alt I made that started posting by himself? Literally my thoughts on all 3 movies, you can go back in this thread to see lmao. Totally agree Halloween 2018 is my second favorite Halloween movie tied with Halloween 4. Kills is just a lot of fun. Ends yeah. When I saw it in theatres I was so mad. It promised Michael and instead we barely saw him, and I hated that they focussed so much on the silly lovestory between Alice and Corey. I found it really boring especially the first part after the opening. Totally agree that had they introduced Corey earlier, I would have cared a little more. But to end a franchise with a new storyline was kinda silly. But I was mostly mad that they let Corey beat up Michael like some normal human after he killed like 20 people in Kills in 5 minutes. The second watch I started to appreciate some things more. If they just did a rehash of Michael killing... would have been repetive. So I did understand they did something new. The music is phenomenal. The k--- scenes are also really cool. And the scenes when Michael does show up >>> This scene is so f---ing dope especially with the music. So yeah I also go kinda back and forth because the opening is nice (and surprising). Then the return of Laurie's theme music was so cool. But then a huge part thats kinda boring to me. When it picks up it gets cool though. Also I hate that they brought back Lindsey for this but they didn't give her anything to do. And she wasn't even at the junkyard ending... so lame. So basically, I have some issues with it, but I'm happy we got it and the trilogy as a whole is a gr8 addition to the franchise imo.
Jul 7, 2024 To be honest I didn't see any review or spoiler before watching it. Only thing I saw was critics praising it. Last few times that happened I was so excited watching them... US and Midsommar. Both of them were such dissappointments to me. So I really lowered my expectations to some pretentious bs. I have so say, it isn't! Pretty cool actually. @Marsh since diggledogg didn't see it gonna respond in spoilertags; Spoiler I agree with you the first half was good. But it also wasn't since nothing really happened lol. I was sure that Keith dude was some kinda creep, especially him trying to hard. I was really feeling the tension though, nice build up. But I have to say I was kind of let down when he was suddenly killed and that monster showed up. A bit anticlimatic to 'his' story you know? Personally I am not a huge fan of monster movies, so I wasn't that interested in the rest. Also think they really rushed the origin of the story.. The girl going back for that douchebag and the a------ cops made me laugh. But even if monster movies aren't my thing it was done pretty well. Bit of a weird ending too, like no explanation to anything at all except the story the black man told them. 7/10 Important side note, the lead (Georgina Cambell) I saw her in an episode of Black Mirror and immediately liked her. She's gorgeous!
Jul 7, 2024 Second half was a bit crazy lol could have been better written. I love Midsommar. Us was mid, but Lupita did good.
Jul 7, 2024 I'm guessing that Quiet Place prequel is mid, I want to see how it ends, not how it started. Bring back Emily
