A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

It’s about time I watched the next movie in the series. I loved this movie. Whereas the second movie felt at least slightly worse than the first, this feels like a return to form. I’d say this is basically on par with the first movie. Maybe that’s because Wes Craven came back for this one. It actually feels creepy again. The return of Nancy made it even better.

    8/10

    Scream franchise

f---, what a ride. The whole franchise in 2 days really makes you watch it like a tv-show. Like I said I'm kinda sad it's over and can't wait to watch them again next year lol.

I know some people are all about progression, new characters etc. But imo, the biggest strength of this franchise is keeping around the core characters (no, not the corny core 4). Which does make you look at it like a tv show, actually caring about the characters. Sometimes a franchise does get rid of the original and manages to get a new interesting lead, but most of the times it fails. Elmstreet imo was not as interesting when Nancy was gone. Friday the 13th was not that interesting at all.... Halloween after Laurie was gone, they did kinda okay because the other one was still present (Loomis) and Jamie became a fan favorite too. But then she was dead in 6 too so they had to bring Laurie back (twice) and start new timelines.

Thank god Scream did not make that mistake and they didn't have to creat new timelines or difficult ressurections, because they understood that a lot of people (including me) just cared for the original people. The more the series continued, the more fans were invested in the characters too. Gale, Sidney, Dewey I mean obviously. They were and are the core of the franchise and the makers understood that. Scream 5 was a good move also introducing new leads that grew on us, but in the end it was Gale, Dewey and Sidney that people were interested in. And even Judy Hicks return. In part 6 there was only Gale so they brought back another fan favorite: Kirby. Still, even if she was not present, the phone calls to Sidney and knowing she was okay, was enough for me too this time.

Conclusion; all the people whining about progression, I agree to an extent but in the end nostalgia, and having characters people grew to care about, ALWAYS wins with most fans. I hope the writers keep that in mind with 7 because with Sam, Dewey and Tara gone, we just have Sid and Gale left.

    Okay, on to the movies:

    Scream 1

The one that started it all. Having several nods to Halloween (even literally) the best thing is obviously the self awareness. The movie within the movie, that seperates it from other slashers. Clichés on purpose, having Randy the film geek explain it even. But from the opening act, it was also scary. Not many dull moments, a lot of action and great kills. Already setting up the backstory for the next by mentioning Maureens murder and a brief introduction of Cotton. This one has less humour than some of the sequels. But from the start Sidney is a great character and the whole movie is just a f---ing classic. The final act in the house is legendary. 10/10

    Scream 2

So yeah this is basically a continuation of the first. Some new, yet disposable characters are introduced. But man that opening scene in the theatre is f---ing amazing. There's only one scene I always skip and thats when Derek does that fa---- s--- in the school cafeteria lol. Bringing Cotton was a great move, adding a new backstory. Randy's death kinda s----d but I didn't care as much about him as the main 3. The killer was kinda lame but with the whole backstory it also set up part 3 a little. The car scene was also very dope. I don't think its on the same level as 1, but it's still a classic to me. 9/10

    Scream 3

Now this is where my opinion is different from the general. It is one of the weaker ones, that much I agree, and it's also a little far-fetched, the whole secret brother thing. But I think it was very creative and I loved the hollywood setting. This movie does have a lot less Sidney and focusses on Dewey/Gale a bit more though. But the whole Maureen past, which was already mentioned in the first 2, loved it. The big reveal, that Roman set up all the murders took away a little from the first, but imo the biggest issue is that they ignored this for the next movies. No mention in 4, no mention in 5 and in 6 they just name him 'one of the killers'. They ignore that he was Sids brother and the mastermind of the killings. But they did not ignore the events itself, since they mention Mark, Stab 3 killings and eventually Roman so this did excist in the timeline. About the movie; Sids dream about her mom was pretty scary. And I loved the opening scene with Cotton and his girlfriend too. The Hollywood people were kinda whatever, but the kills were nice. The scene at the set with Sid was dope. And yeah, the whole Maureen background, Gale's investigation, I liked it. I can just say that I absolutely love this movie and think its stupid how they treated it. 8.5/10

    Scream 4

So, before part 5 was released I praised the h--- out of this. A nice reboot, introducing the whole Facebook and live stream stuff, they did a good job keeping up with the times. Now here they kinda ignore part 2 and 3, which I can get from a 'return to Woodsboro' standpoint, because the other movies took place somewhere else. But it seems like Sidney is also single and not together w Mark. Gale's writers block, Dewey being the sherrif, Sidney returning home, this is what I meant with a tv-show feeling. You check in with your favorite characters. Jill was a great co-lead and eventually killer. Her motive was kinda cool, and that one line she says is still so true in 2024: "I don't need friends, I need fans!!". With all nerds blogging, vlogging, posting corny videos of themselves it seems like that's still how a lot of people feel. Just different platforms. The fact that the killer live streamed the kills was a nice update too. The opening using the Stab movies was cool. I found the group of friends kinda interesting, especially Charlie and Kirby. I do think this movie added a bit more humour too. Ending the scene in the hospital, reporters still calling Jill the hero, was funny. However, as much as I like this.... I think part 5 did the whole reboot thing better especially following it up too. For that, I think this is the most pointless movie and not 3.
But, that doesn't make me dislike it. It's a great chapter and as a movie great. But as part of the franchise to me probably the weakest. That says more about the others though, because its still a classic 8.5/10

    Scream 5

Oh boy. They really went back to the start with this one. I mentioned earlier that some people are all about progression, others want nostalgia. This is the best of those both worlds. Bringing in a brand new lead, with a f----- up past. But a past that also connects to the original! From the start I thought Sam was an interesting character, and thats not just because of my soft spot for Melissa Barrera. Billy's daughter, seeing his visions and struggling to not become a killer was nice. Then we learned that the opening k---... wasn't a k---! Nice touch. Sheriff Judy is now Sherrif which is another example of keeping a basic storyline/characters and no new timeline bs. Her death was a lot more f----- than the new ones because she was already part of the franchise. Dope k--- though!
But then our beloved 3 are also back. When Dewey called someone and I saw Sid picking up the phone I was so happy. New and OG's working together was great. But then, 5 movies in, the biggest moment of the franchise so far happened: Dewey. When he was killed, I was mad, but the moment saw Gale and Sid at the hospital breaking down, I will admit: I had tears in my eyes. This does not happen with new characters only ones you known for years. g.d. what a f----- up yet powerfull scene....
Then the party, being at Stu's house and the killers re-creating part 1 (and being mad at franchises losing touch with the core fans) was dope and so true. New and OG working together was nice and Samantha eventually going crazy killing Richie was nice. Don't f--- with a serial killers daughter, b----!
Tara also was badass at the end. Ambers death by Gale also fun. This, to me, is on par with the original. However, mentioning Mark and the kids and no Roman was lame. 10/10

    Scream 6

It's so nice of them to return the favour. Halloween H20 was basically Michael Myers in a Scream movie (I'll get back to that when I review that one) here they put Ghostface in a Halloween themed movie. But first things first, what a GREAT opening. I love Samara, but it was also new that the opening k--- was not at a house. And the killer reveal was so confusing only to see the killer was the opening k--- himself. Then we catch up with a struggling Samantha and trying to ignore the pain Tara. I wish they didn't bring back Chad and Mindy because they were so annoying here but I get that they were trying to expand the lead character base. But they succeeded by making it interesting without Sid. By mentioning her and letting us know she was okay, it was enough. Also having Gale and Kirby was good for nostalgia fans and Sam/Tara grew on me so it was fine. The train scene with all the halloween costumes was so dope, and so was the supermarket scene with Tara and Sam. The apartment stuff was okay I guess. But the whole 'Scream' theatre was also nice; this also forced them to not ignore Roman any longer. Even if they still just called him 'the producer of Stab 3' and not Sids brother. Maybe Sid never mentioned that to anyone? I hope they adress this in part 7, because it also has Mark returning.
But having all the elements of the previous movies, setting up a possible Stu return, and make Sam wear her fathers costume was nice. I think it was a bit lame to have Richies dad be the killer, but it was a hommage to part 2 I guess. Sam and Tara were so d--- badass there though. Loved that she let out her inner Loomis. Last but not least though; Gale's big moment. I was so scared that she was gonna die but luckily they didn't.
I was wondering how the killer knew all those things he mentioned though. Anyway dope scene, luckily she survived.
Then when the movie ends Demi starts 'Still alive" how dope.
I am kinda sad that this is probably the end of Sam and Tara, but also happy that they are not dead. Curious how they gonna handle this in part 7. Please no off screen death!!!
My recency bias wants me to rate it higher than part 2, but I think when time passes I will like it the same so 9/10.

Would just like to end with; what an amazing franchise!!

After finishing the Scream franchise other slashers just don't feel the same... but moving on!

    (Halloween) Haunt

The movie starts with a nice Halloween decorated street. Then we are introduced to our characters, who are about to visit a Halloween party. When the party is over they decide to visit a haunted house. It's not a normal haunted house and the people working there aren't normal people. Its a nice Halloween movie, and the hauned house provides fun scares and the holiday spirit. Nothing groundbreaking, but a decent and enjoyable slasher! 7/10

I'm not sure it makes a difference but maybe it does, watching all 6.

I was just enjoyed 6 movies in a row and none of them made me wanna turn it off or lose interest. From start till end I loved it.

On to the other big one, hello Jason

Tonight the first Halloween ones too (part 5 and 6)

    Music, movies, what a day.

    After the Blu album this morning, went back to the horror movies;

    Friday The 13th Part 2

Jason is a legend and a horror icon. I watched the first one a few weeks back and now the sequel... I'll be honest, the legend is better than the actual movies lol. The first one was okay and I think this was on the same level. The opening scene where the survivor gets killed (kinda cliché tho) was a nice nod but then its just the same stuff. Some of the kills were cool but I hardly cared for the characters. Its a nice stage, a summer camp in the woods though, and to finally see Jason in action was nice. In this movie he was more Michael Myers style than the Zombie version he becomes later in the franchise. It was a decent watch, nothing special. @Ripper Roo I also never seen the other movies other than 6 (had it on video lol), Jason X like 15 years ago and FvsJ. Wanted to order the whole franchise to watch later, after Halloween. But it was 250 euro and I noticed the rest has even lower ratings so not sure if its worth it lmaoo. 6.5/10

I gave part 1 a 7 I just noticed, gonna push that to 6.5 as well because I didn't like it more than this

I’d say the only actual good F13 movies are 2-4. I also kinda liked 8. The rest are mediocre from what I remember. 9 was straight up terrible. I’ll have to give the series a rewatch though now that I bought the 8 movie collection

It was lame to introduce and make him the killer in one movie. If he was around since 2018 slowly building it up, it would have made a lot more sense
