Apr 13, 2021 Of course it could have been worse, but that’s a f----- up way of looking at it. We shouldn’t have to be afraid of “agitating cops” when he just had his hands up the whole time. The reason he wasn’t complying was because he stated many times he was scared for his life to reach down for his seatbelt because he didn’t want to give them any reason to be able to say he was reaching for a weapon. if it was actually temporary plates they were worried about they would have seen them within 10 seconds of getting out of their car and sent him on his way. Why did he need to “comply” with them when he literally did nothing wrong? People on this forum want freedom to not get a vaccine but see nothing wrong with violations of personal freedom, rights, and liberty when it comes to our authoritarian militarized police force that gets to do virtually whatever they want with few consequences.
Apr 13, 2021 Yeah but their argument is people are afraid, so they resist. I'm saying you should be more afraid of resisting and escalating the situation than doing something that you KNOW is going to make a cop agitated and/or on alert to pursue levels of force that aren't needed.
Apr 13, 2021 Doesn’t matter what he did, resisting arrest shouldn’t be a death sentence. They’re literally killing people over air fresheners and loosies. Cops aren’t supposed to k--- guilty people either.
Apr 13, 2021 I'm not saying its the right way to look at it. For now until we know there's some sort of reform or legit way of knowing cops aren't f---ing up all the time, this is my way of mitigating my risk of a cop doing something to me.
Apr 13, 2021 I'm literally agreeing with you bro. I'm just saying what we can do until the problem is fixed. We all screaming police reform and f--- the police, but it's gonna take more than just bitching to make it right. And since i'm black and in the military, I can't wait on police reform. I need to know what I can do now to help improve the chances of any situation I am in with a cop be as peaceful as possible so i'm not on the news like Lt. Nazario.
Apr 13, 2021 Nah, I get you there 100%. I would most likely comply as well but I’m just saying, with all the shootings that happen in all sorts of different situations I don’t blame people for making a quick “fight, flight, or freeze” decision and choosing flight. But if we want ANY change with this stuff we can’t shift the blame to people for “not complying.” That’s not a reason to k--- someone and it’s honestly disgusting to me that people are fine with that explanation when it comes to police murder.
Apr 13, 2021 Yeah, sorry I misread your post it’s all good man. I get heated about this stuff sometimes, it was more directed at the world at large than to you specifically, so I apologize cuz you didn’t deserve that ranting aimed at you.
Apr 13, 2021 Freddie Gray was took into "custody without force or incident" then on the van ride to the precinct... his spinal cord got snapped in half. The cops told Jorge Zuniga he was free to go home... then they changed their minds and tackled him and beat the s--- out of him and broke his neck. Then they took him to the drunk tank instead of the hospital... a cop had to hold his head up for the mug shots. They both died from their arrests.
Apr 13, 2021 Yes exactly, im agreeing. That was my exact thought process, not to agitated the officers both times. I didn't think twice, it was instinct to simply comply. No matter how much I hated it and scared I was, I was not getting out of going to jail. Getting this hostile Police officer to put his gun away is all that mattered at that point. All it took was following a simple order. I get sometimes it could still go wrong but those odds aren't as high as some are making it out to be. Cops are scared too most of the time.
Apr 13, 2021 It's all good man. All these cop to black male scenarios hit home for me, so I been paying attention. I'm speaking from experience on what I did to get out of every situation I was in. Every time I was nervous as h---. Every time I was hoping this traffic stop doesn't become more than something it is. Every time I made sure I did what I could to comply and/or do the right thing at the time. And I know doing all those things STILL isn't a guarantee i'm let off with a warning or citation.
Apr 13, 2021 What happened from those cases? Was there any reprimand or lawsuit to the law enforcement involved? If I die and those events truly happened, my family has a better chance of winning a lawsuit from a situation like that than me resisting arrest or doing something that escalated the situation, because we have seen time and time again cops will use our actions in defense to their reactions.
Apr 13, 2021 I’m so sorry you have to deal with that man. It’s a type of fear I’ll never know as a white man...cops already make me nervous enough as is. Honestly it’s to the point that any time I see someone get pulled over in my neighborhood while I’m on a walk I stick around with my phone ready to record and watch just in case. It makes me so sad that we’re at a point where I feel like I have to do that; to keep watch on the people who ostensibly are supposed to be protecting and serving us.
Apr 13, 2021 With Freddie Gray 6 cops got charged with 2nd degree murder and manslaughter... none of the 6 were found guilty and the City of Baltimore settled with his family for $6.4 million. Zuniga's incident just happened a year ago... no cops have been arrested for his death.
Apr 13, 2021 d---. Yeah I think I recall that settlement. There's nothing to really argue here, but the fact these are the type of scenarios that back the system failing us. The attempt of compensation is there, but definitely no justice for Gray. Zuniga's situation is gonna take even longer because of COVID and court systems being so slow. And yet, the families will be expected to be calm, cordial and civil while they HOPE some type of justice is served.
Apr 13, 2021 What are you going on about? If you ignore my. Posts I wouldn't give the slightest f---. Some dipshit teenager tryna tell me how to live on an eminem rap forum is the most ridiculous s--- I ever seen.
Apr 13, 2021 You guys realize that the National Gaurd got to and secured the Brooklyn Center, Minnesota Dollar Tree store faster last night than they were able to be deployed and secure the Capitol Building on 1/6/21?
Apr 13, 2021 Guard deployment is all dependent on the Governor. If the Governor drags their feet, that's why. I know because i'm in the Guard, and I was on standby a bunch of times last year during the election.
Apr 13, 2021 DC doesn't have a govenor... they do have a mayor who asked for the Gaurd to be there and in position before hand and was denied and had a supposed Comander n' Chief who was watching the Insurection with a half hard on... for hours.
Apr 13, 2021 Interesting. Didn't know this: "Mayor Muriel Bowser does not have the same authority over the D.C. National Guard that governors have over their states. She can only request guard troops from the Secretary of the Army. That request then gets sent up the chain of command to the Secretary of Defense for approval."
