I'd much rather have an active, entertaining champ. Conor is also likely to give us a super fight with the LW champ right off the bat.

Bellator tonight, not the greatest card though. Part of the reason I really don't want Bendo in Bellator is the matchmaking. Coker seems adamant about protecting his investments and gives us a lot of squash matches. The guy Punk is fighting tonight is a 15 to 1 dog.

    Anyways the card tonight...

    Josh Thomson vs Pablo Villaseca
    Daniel Weichel vs Georgi Karakhanyan
    Derek Anderson vs Patricky Freire
    Virgil Zwicker vs Brett Rodgers
    Adam Piccolotti vs Mario Soto

Weichel/Georgi winner should fight Straus for the belt next. Weighed had that crazy fight with Pitbull where Weichel almost finished Pitbull but was saved by the bell, then got knocked it early in the 2nd round.

Patricky Pitbull vs Anderson 2 is kinda random, Anderson beat him he first time at Bellator 98. But as we saw a few weeks back with Chandler/Rickels 2, they don't have many quality LW's.

I miss Pat fighting in the UFC, one of the most exciting HW's in UFC history imo. But then his chin disappeared. Him and Rose are such a random couple due to the age differential.

That standup between Northcutt and Pfister is still bothering me. Is it a business or is it a sport?

Dana said it was a terrible stand up in the press conference with Sage sitting right next to him.

Plus the refs are appointed by the athletic commissions.

He gets his cake and eats it too. Who wouldn't do the same?
I'm the last guy to claim a fix, but the weird call was followed by Sage doing a third of the work from the top and nothing.

Again the Nevada Athletic Commission appoints the refs. I don't think they are fixing a Sage Northcutt fight lol...

s--- stand up but Cody couldn't finish a sandwich, that fight was ending the way it did regardless.

Uhmm, have you heard of the sport of boxing? The Nevada State Athletic Commission is not exactly a spotless entity.

I dunno much about the sport but am so psyched for the fights tonight after all the promo.
What was wrong with the call (genuine question, only seen a few fights)? When should the standup be used?

If you consult the rules, it's when no progress is being made, a stalemate if you will. If you consult Georges St. Pierre's fight history, you realize that exceptions are often made for important fighters similar to Lebron James taking 3 steps to the hoop. The problem with the Pfister stand up is that he was clearly progressing, and by that I mean he (1) landed 55 significant strikes and (2) made several attempts to pass guard (assume a more dominant position). The call, by itself, can easily be explained as a mistake by the ref until you look at what happens right afterward. Northcutt scores a takedown and does next to nothing with it (12 significant strikes) for the remainder of the round without the ref intervening. It's really bizarre.

Thanks for the explanation. I saw the press conference where Dana said publicly how bad a call it was, ref must have been pretty clearly in the wrong.
