May 28, 2015 Don't see how young thug and lil b are avant garde unless we're doing the whole "so mainstream it's not mainstream" argument, which I don't get. Again, no hate to any of the artists mentioned
May 28, 2015 lil b is wildly experimental/unconventional and his ideas have been bitten wholesale by the mainstream
May 28, 2015 I've never gotten into lil b if we're being honest, a lot of his work falls under that ironic category of rap I try not to delve into And what mainstream artists bite his style?
May 28, 2015 nothing about lil b is ironic. rocky's music wouldn't exist in its current form without him.
May 28, 2015 Lil B releases thousands of songs a year and follows a quantity over quality format, if he's not being ironic it's even worse. I have friends who actually like him and even they'll see he just churns s--- out til something sticks well. I'm aware of the whole cloud rap thing but nothing he does from what I've heard is somwthing only he could have done
May 28, 2015 i'm not going to take seriously the argument of someone who says they "haven't really listened" to the artist at hand.
May 28, 2015 Of his thousands of songs I've listened to roughly 20, enough to say I haven't heard anything special at all
May 28, 2015 and you think there's nothing avant-garde about his approach to hip-hop as a form? word.
May 28, 2015 He wasn't the one I was questioning the labeling of, it was soulja boy, whom I don't think should be heralded as some artsy genius for inspiring an artist whom I still find to be totally ironic
May 28, 2015 i find it extremely suspect that you can't take soulja boy or lil b or other rappers at face value. whose production was made a viable approach to hip-hop by...lil b.
May 28, 2015 Auto correct mb Hasn't clams been around longer than b? Also, I can take soulja at face value for sure, I'm saying that, if we're to get down into it, lil b started off very generically imo and turned that to 11 and made that into his thing, basically being so generic it defies the mainstream and creates something new a la Hannah diamond I think her name is... Basically, soulja boy is a super influential artist to the mainstream, but he isn't wildly divergent it's just that lil b turned his style on its head in a way that I can't help but think is ironic
May 28, 2015 viper was doing cloudy s--- before basedgod. he made clams popular but i don't think you can label him as an innovator of an entire style
