I like the album but the reviews I’m seeing so far may be a little too generous. Currently 100/100 on Metacritc. Obviously still early so not a ton of reviews, but this is definitely not his best album. Pitchfork will give it a 9.4 at a minimum

Alright, I've pretty much had N95 on repeat all day (image below has what I played all day). I mean, god N95 is just a f---ing classic b-----r, top 10 in his discog and it's not even a question for me. I think I'm going to return to this album, I might actually give it a 2nd listen tomorrow. I think my main gripe still stands, that it's not "sonically" as pleasurable as his previous releases. On a lyrical content though, mans f---ing popped off on this. I honestly don't know how to even rank it. I'ma sit on this for a minute. I remember liking only 1 track off of Dawn FM when it first came out and it's my most played album of the year so far (like just over 1000 plays).

This a really good album. Not a classic though.

I see a lot of yall not cool with Kendrick's maturation. Says more about you than him.

The album is nice I just don’t see myself listening to it again for awhile. Which is disappointing because even with d---. it was all I listened to for weeks. This one I’m kinda exhausted listening to Day 1.

I just got to the 2nd disc. Anybody that says this AOTY needa get that Kendrick c--- out their mouth. This isn't bad, but I can't escape the feeling he's trying too hard to get another classic after TPAB. Summer Walker still GOATed tho as always.

Whoever introduced the word “sonically” to the rap message board lexicon needs to be outcasted forever

Father Time, Savior, Mr. Morale, Mirror, Silent Hill

I think Father Time will be the big one for most people. But a neat thing about this project is I think everyone is going to have a very different top 5 set of songs.

about to do my second round, now that I’ve slept

The production is on point though.

Some s--- on here sounds like he's trying to recapture the feeling of d---. Unfortunately he's also bringing the s--- back that I don't like about the album :useyourhead:
I may remove like 5 tracks and bump it that way.

I mean to be fair, people compare eminem everyday to their favorite artists on twitter and trash him

I don't have a problem with the introspection of this album at all, I love introspective hip-hop. I also love more soulful and piano laden production, so this album should be right up my street.

On the whole though, this album feels very disjointed and all over the place. I'm not implying it was 'lazily' put together because there's clearly blood put into this, but that's the vibe that comes across to me. Whether that's because it's a double album or he's just lost his ability to put together a fully cohesive and strong album, I'm not sure. Sometimes it feels like it's different just to be different. I mean, we finally hear him over an Alchemist beat and he decides to shout/argue over it rather than just rap. It just comes across as the much common curse of albums slowly watering down in quality and simplicity the further an artist gets into their career (Life Of Pablo anybody?).

There's definitely some highs on here (United In Grief, Worldwide Steppers, Father time, Mother I Sober, Mirror) but as a collective album, it just doesn't match up to much of his previous work. I probably slightly prefer it to d---, but that's more personal preference with the production. I think it's clearly his weakest album objectively.
