Aug 20, 2020A lot of people here have been a part of this community for literally 10-15 years. While I wish this forum was as active as it was in 2014-2017, I do like a smaller more tight knit community cuz you actually know most posters—plus a lot of the posts on bigger forums are spammy cuz they're treated like twitter instead of a forum. When I've posted on bigger forums I've found substantial discussion to be just as hard to find on an inactive forum in a lot of respects lol.

- Thread: Artist Spotlight
Oct 22, 2022
I'd like to try something new, called "Artist Spotlight". The idea is to have write-ups of artists who may be lesser-known to the community, showcasing their person/talent/discography/background/etc..
An introductory goal is to have one every ~2 weeks so that we can feature the thread/artist on the banner for a handful of days, while also allowing for more mainstream news to be featured throughout. If participation & demand is higher, then we can look to increase that frequency.
Reply itt if you'd like to be involved. Given the proposed frequency, there may be a bit of a runway before your artist/thread is showcased, but it'd be solid to start brainstorming early.
The artist can be of your choosing, but should be one that has more than just a couple songs in their discography and has potential to continue to grow.
You don't have to be a good writer to participate, but simply putting forth the effort to have a detailed post would be sufficient to spark conversation & give the artist some shine.

Dre and Jimmy Iovine stopped by the Golden State Warriors practice facility on Tuesday (Jan. 9) where ESPN reporter Chris Haynes got the opportunity to chop it up with Dre for a few. When asked if Detox was shelved for good, the super producer/rapper replied, “I’m working on a couple songs right now. We’ll see.”Sqrt Sqrt, Lil Squeed, n9ne and 20 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Even though Biggie wasn't as prolific as Tupac he actually has a lot of non-album verses, freestyles and deep cuts out there that are great and I feel like a lot of people actually haven't sought them out or heard them. I heard a lot of these the first time from the official Mr. Cee Biggie Smalls 10th anniversary mixtape, if you're a BIG fan I highly recommended finding this on the internet somehow its full of excellent stuff
So on to the list...here are 6 dope non-album Biggie verses and unreleased songs that you need to check out
1. Where Brooklyn At? Freestyle
One of the most legendary freestyles in history featured Biggie Smalls sharing a stage w/ Tupac among others sometime around 1993 before their beef had started...Biggie stole the show with his high energy verse that many regard to be one of the best in his entire career. I recommended searching for the full version with Pac's verse, too.
"I got 7 mac-11's, about eight .38's
Nine 9's, ten mac-10's the s----s never end
You can't touch my riches
Even if you had MC Hammer and them 357 b------s"
2. The Ugliest
One of Big's smoothest verses ever delivered over a classic Dilla groove. This was probably the bluntest Biggie ever directed violent lyrics at Tupac after he released Hit 'Em Up.
"By now you figure, he talkin bout that n-----
But your weak-a--- assumptions, lead led to dumpin
IV to pump-in, you're feeling something
Catch my drift, or catch my four-fifth lift
At least six inches, above project fences
Turn meat to minces, jokes turn to flinches
When I rain I drenches, cleared your park benches
Missed you by pinches, your talk is senseless
Actor needs chiropractor, for cracked jaw
Yes I rocked, your chatterbox
Dangerous you're not, I gets down
Twist your body round and round, upside down"
3. Road to Riches (Real n----s)
Big Poppa delivers three previously unheard verses over top of West Coast classic beats like "Nuthin' But a G Thang", Murder Was the Case" and "Gin & Juice". West Coast Biggie...listen ASAP. Some dope verses on this one.
"Got no love for the other side, f--- them tricks
any repurcussion, Junior MAFIA spit clips
All the times, Big Poppa kick the raw rhymes
Raw flows, and that's how it goes"
4. Think Big
An underappreciated rare BIG verse from 1995
"In the back room playing SEGA, Street Fighter II
I'm inviting you, bring your writing crew and they dopest rhymes
I get up in that a--- every time
Lyrically I'm, untouchable, uncrushable
Getting mad blunted in the 600
Benz, ask your friends who's the illest
Licking shots, n----s screaming "Biggie Smalls tried to k--- us"
5. 4 My Niggaz/Peeps
Another verse from a 1995 track, this time Biggie featured on a Red Hot Lover tone joint. This is one of those verses that is essential Biggie and wouldn't have felt out of place on Ready to Die.
"Introducing the black b------ from Bedrock
Guaranteed to make your head rock, tote glocks"
"The black nine hard to find MFer
After the rhyme press rewind MFer"
6. Young G'z
A track from Puff Daddy's 1997 album No Way Out...a long forgotten third Jay Z/Biggie collaboration. Track features these dons rapping over a smokey smooth soul beat and of course BIG goes on last and lays down some sexy mafioso bars.
"n----s wanna hit me, if they get me, dress my body in linen By Armani
Check it, my lyrical carjack, make your brains splat
High caliber gats is all I f--- with, now peep the rough s---
In my circumference, mad b------s, with mad lucci
Bulletproof vests under they Coogi
Spitting my Uzi, don't lose me, my trigga n----s represent
Driving dirty in J-30's gettin bent"
BONUS: Party & bs Freestyle
I'd hope most hip hop heads have heard BIG's first single Party and bs. Well, here BIG lays down the verses that would go on to be from the track Microphone Murderer. I think it fits better here.
"The microhphone murder, mass mayhem maker
B-I-G's on the mic, call the undertaker"
"The microphone I'm rippin, the burner got the clip in
Slammin emcee's like Scotty Pippen"Last edited: Sep 24, 2017(This ad goes away when signing up) -

He was thrust into the spotlight after one song and that's an absolute anomaly. He never had a chance to release a bunch of tapes while no one was paying attention to him and figure out his sound. Imagine if Young Thug was signed by Kanye after one song from I Came From Nothing. There are times there where he sounds identical to Lil Wayne. Eminem bit his flow from AZ on Infinite. Both of those artists turned out to be extremely iconic (though for different reasons obviously).
Desiigner has never sounded like Future enough to be actually mistaken for him unless you're someone who doesn't listen to rap. He's clearly influenced by him and they are in a similar vocal range, but the only songs he sounds similar on are Caliber and Da Day. However, the tape is definitely an amalgam of bitten sounds and flows from contemporary rap (Chicago and ATL specifically). Make It Out especially is Lil Herb karaoke. This kid had made like two songs before New English, of course he needs time to figure out, like, how to actually rap.
I don't think this album is very good but I see how someone would enjoy it...though I know the enjoyment factor is hyperbolized by its fans due to the meme factor. I think he's gonna be a flash in the pan, but I'm willing to give him another chance when his debut drops. I'd encourage people who really like this to listen to more ATL/Chicago rap though.
@DesiignerSXN thoughts? I'd like to hear people's actual thoughts on the tape/him in gen.Last edited: Jul 1, 2016(This ad goes away when signing up) -

- Thread: Props To Dr. Dre
Aug 8, 2015
After listening to this album multiple times in the last few days I got to give props to the doctor. I had set the bar high for this album knowing what Dre is capable of and I was not disappointed. One thing about this album is it's consistency. There might not be any Still Dre or Nothing But A G Thang level songs but I find every track on this album enjoyable, some more than others but overall I can easily listen to the entire album without skipping a single song.
So i tip my hat to Dr. Dre for this solid project. For a 50 year old nearly billionaire man who hasn't put out an album in 16 years this could easily have been a huge flop. But the good doctor proved to us again that he doesn't put out any wack s---. His track record remains flawless.
This might not be the album of the decade, or even the year but it's a very solid project that I see myself still listening to in the future. Thanks docRockstarX3000, CSA, boyz n the suburbs and 20 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -
