Spoke to @Loyalty and I thought we'd run awards to decide who SXN80 regards as the best in certain categories for 2016. I'm happy to add other categories if people request. I've made graphics for what I believe to be the main ones. For nominations, PM me your 3 favourites for each category. I will use the 4 most popular choices for each category as the final nominations. I will give everyone a week to do their nominations so everyone has a chance to get in.

I thought I'd finally contribute something worthwhile to the Music section here, so here we are. I'll be posting a song with some interesting facts, trivia, quotes, etc. that I find about them from Wikipedia. Some facts might be well known, some might not. Feel free to request artists. For now, I'll just be doing songs I know and like. I'll also include a quick link to Youtube to listen to the songs (I won't post the video/song in the thread since I don't like when videos get taken down or can't be played outside of Youtube)

This was the first song produced by Kanye West following his mother's death in 2007. Kanye had been wanting to work with MIA since 2005, while working on Late Registration.

T.I. wrote 4 verses in total for this song, eventually using the last one he wrote, as it "stood out (better) than the others"

The song was originally only supposed to be a T.I. and Kanye West collab, but T.I. decided to make it an "event" record, and sent the song to Jay-Z and Lil Wayne. He called the song a "very ambitious idea but a lovely one"

T.I. claimed that Jay-Z liked the finished version of the song so much, he wished to include it on The Blueprint 3, but it didn't end up happening. @Michael Myers provides more info on this here.

When the group performed the song at the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009, M.I.A. was supposedly 9 months pregnant, and the performance date was her due date.

Travis (probably Mike Dean) did a good job sequencing this album and maintaining an aesthetic/vibe throughout. On paper, it's a much better listen front-to-back than Rodeo, which other than the stretch from Oh My Dis Side to Night Call is sequenced terribly. But Travis is so irredeemably boring 95% of the time that it doesn't matter. I've listened to this album probably five times and I don't remember a single line Travis said on this entire album besides 'stroke my cactus' and the part where he gives a nod to Day N Nite. I've never heard another album that's sequenced and maintains a sound this well that has such lackluster individual songs. It's actually kind of baffling to me. Even if Rodeo is a terrible listen front-to-back and Travis still isn't that interesting, the star-studded guest line up and the grandiose production makes each song feel like an event. How can you borrow this much from Kanye, Future, Young Thug, Rae Sremmurd (and h---, even Kid Cudi) and have nothing to show for it?

my grandma passed away yesterday fam
she was more than just a grandma to me, she was my second mom in every sense of the meaning.
I moved into her house when I was 4 or 5 and she helped raised me. she took my brother, me, mom and dad in cause we had no place good to go. she could of left to live with her sisters in florida but she stayed with us, she'd always say 'im here because of you 2 kids', she was my biggest supporter and I wouldn't be who I am and where I am without her.
I miss her like crazy but I know she will always be with me.
Miss you grandma, love you grandma.
