The back story; my wife and i had booked the maiden voyage on the Harmony of the Seas (the newest and largest cruise ship in the world) on the 29th May. In January we found out she was pregnant and based on Royal Caribbeans policy, we had to cancel our booking. Gutted to say the least!

Any way, a few days ago I learnt the ship arrived for the first time ever into its first port on my birthday.
This gave me the idea of cheekily asking for a birthday present! I emailed a few important people in the company, I gave them the sob story of cancelling the booking we had and a bit of info about the other ships I've been on of theirs and that the ship arrives on my birthday etc etc and I have one simple birthday wish, a tour of the ship I should've been on.

Naturally I wasn't expecting anything in return. Honestly I would've been happy with an acknowledgement of my email along with a "no".

A couple of hours later I got an email from the Managing Director of the UK division who said thanks for the email but they could not allow me on the ship on the 17th due to rigorous testing etc etc and they are very sorry. However, if my wife is still safe to travel they would love to invite us on their VIP and press sailing for 2 nights on Friday as their guests. Everything complimentary, drink, food, internet and even parking at the port!

This happened a few days ago and I'm still in utter shock. I'm going to be telling this story for the test of my life. I honestly have never witnessed such amazing customer service and I don't think I ever will again.

If only my ISP (telstra) had customer service like this. Whenever i call them i'm greeted by a relative of Narsh with poor english/communication skills who's favorite words are apparently "nooooo. no help! good day to you sir" before hanging up.

Great customer service is rare and really shouldn't be. It's better for business if you try your best to take care of customers. Instead, you have outsourced customer service or people who either don't know how to do their job or don't care. Congrats on your situation, sounds awesome.
